darkhaired lucy into the same small bed she and her younger sis ter mae had slept in years before mae so mischievous with dark twinkling eyes and tiny inquisitive singers how pretty she had been in the blue silk dress with embroi dered roses that rose had painstak ingly stitched where was she now would they ever meet again rose did not know tears dimmed her eyes but this sorrow was too deep for tears goodnight lucy floto sleep now several evenings later a few neighbours stopped by to welcome bose and tom back to the neigh t bourhood after greeting them rose showed them to the sitting room a bright fire crackled in the open stone fireplace throwing a rosy red glow over the chintz covers i catching the red glints in the cherrywood chest lucy rose cbcclaimed th child was sitting by the open embroidered the chest could be opened only by tiny fingers for the spring was concealed deep within a bird s eye at long last the riddle of maes disappearance was solved editorial the high school christmas party held in the wrigglesworth school was thoroughly enjoyed by the large percentage of ghs students who attended this is the first get together in q inng time and student council is to be congratulated for its arrange- rnents it is parties like this which foster a real school spirit but these parties have been very few because ghs has not facilities for any form of recreation 6r entertainment we know that the development of social consciousness is a neces sary part of education theroillty to work together is fostered by sports and recreation but wephave no facilities for either of these character building activities the ipept of education has re fused to date to allow us these fac ilities we wonder if parents of ghs students realize the conditions under which the staff are forced to work they are expected to give us the same education as is given to pupils in schools equipped with every modern educational facility proper labs gymns libraries perhaps if a little more interest was taken in ghs ve might be able to prevail on the depu of education to at least supply the grant for a gymnasium which could also be used as an auditorium georgetown is not a backwoods community we have just as much right to proper education equip ment as has any other progressive community last day xmas party am open letter december 1952 georgetown ont hon mr dunlop minister of education parliament buildings toronto ontario dear mr dunlop it would seem to ms students at georgetown high school that there is something inconsistent in your new policy with regard to our pro posed new high school are we mistaken in believing that pt is a compulsory subject if it is hoi can you expect it to bo taught without facilities for it granted its fun to take pt ouv side on a sunny day but as you know the larger part of the school year is in winter time it is really difficult for the teacher to teach physical training with his pupils struggling around in the snow when the field is muddy the sub ject is dropped completely because wc must not spoil the grass around the school the only inside recreation we have s one pingpong table in the hall to supply recreation for 180 students when the weather is un suitable stich bodybuilding ac tivity as indoor basketball or gym nasties have never been known in our century old building therefore mr dunlop tf your department is going to insist on p t it should also insist on pro viding the very necessary facili ties we hope you will look into this matter more fully and recon sider ydur departments decision yours hopefully
