local residents by a stud ent of the 20s tl sounds like a long time ago but we are really not that old it is more pleasant how ever to look back on the years spent at ghs and recall a few of the interesting highlights and chan ges advocated very few will recall the lovely spruce hedge along guelph street which was so convenient for the boys and girls jumping spare per iods mr ross principal of ghs till 1935 found it necessary to have the hedge cut down and the other hedge at the rear of the school trimmed as the lighter of foot used the old radial track at a means of escape many will recall just what a good sprinter mr ross was and the number of times they were ushered back to school even after reaching the old trestle bridge mr ross had a price less sense of hum our and the in ni still eehos with the birds h wc flown but their names are known other pleasant remembered names at that time were mioses penson peek bishop murtha davidson james and st hell with the arrival on the stall of mr cur tain and mr hume some changes were made at ghs with a little more emphasis on sport do you remember the two gladiators in the local amphitheatre mr held in inn replaced mr curtain he was largely responsible for the first for- ni i dance to oe held in jears and it was due to his boundless energy thti ghs published two issues of the challenge it was in the first issue of this grand publication that a need for a ndw school was pointed out editorially after twenty years this is partially taking form by now the desks have either been planed down or replaced and only the walls echo such names as d r norv al j r g s couldn t plane deep enough j i- and h l science was their babv jte and c d these boys formed the local s p u out of courtesy to one of the staff and although miles separ ate still love to reminisce any further clue to their identity may be received from mr jack evans the oldest employee at ghs it would not be fair to omit the names of a few of the board mem bers who had plans f r a new srhool but unfortunately have not lived to see then drnms come true pror hutt f y bnrnclough s kirk and w v grant served manv years on the board and the pupils of today owe consider ible to these men who gave generously of their time and effort lo make george town high school a school to be proud of tended an american school you would undoubtedly notice the lack of discipline there are many who wouid rath er have selfexpression schools in canada but they do not realize what terrible results these schools would create at times the discipline in our schools seems so very harsh but it is harsh to prevent what has hap pened m the usa we can pride ourselves on being among the best educated students in the world with better educational systems in most instances than those used in the usa choir report bev hyde the choir is just waking up to the fact that commencement is next week by the time you read this ou 11 fmdim one week be hind but that is because reports have to be one week ahead of time both double trios will be singing at commencement the first one night and the second the other the pupils taking part in the fes tival have been practicing at noon again though the piano will still remain locked the key can be se cured by these pupils even though you cant hear yourself think in the room with the piano at noon practice will still go on for we would like ghs to be well known as a very musical school this year the choir will not be singing in the festival this year much to our disappointment the choir piece for the festival this ear could be done i think beautifully by the choir miss luke does double duty miss luke has a tough job to do iiowi riavs along with trving to sjphon a little knowledge into oui uppn storeys she also teaches a class of immgranls who cant speak english once a week she will be a great help to the community in teaching these new canadians how to understand our difficult lan guage basketball new sport at ghs on
