ontarioquebec dlviakm of the cwja tips can be helpful a member of the chamber of commerce suggests that private citizens can help more than they know m contacting possible future georgetown industries at present the chamber and the indus trial committee of council pursue all leads and both have voluminous correspondence which so far has led to nothing concrete in the way of new industry this chamber member thinks we are going at the problem backwards for by the time it is published knowledge that a firm is going to move to another location or build another branch plans are fairly well finalized the time to act is while plans are sjtill in the rumpur stage here is where every one of us can help we all have friends in various ontario towns and m the states perhaps in casual conver sation or in letters they tell us that they hear suchandsuch a firm is going to do such-and- such a thing of course these rumours are not always correct but it is true that often the story is known by word of mouth long before the actual decisions have been made by mr big he suggests that each time one of us hears a rumour no matter how flimsy that he report it either to industrial chairman doug sargent of the town council or to the chamber of commerce these leads could then be followed up and who knows you might be responsible for starting a chain of events which will lead to that elusive new georgetown industry its worth a try something new road signs halton now has two townships which have adopted road signs trafalgar was the first township to erect signs on all road intersections recently nas- sagaweya followed suit this is a progressive step which it is hoped will be followed in fu ture by esquesing and nelson of course the plan has its drawbacks pot pourri mr and mrs sam penrice and family moved on monday into the house on albert street which they recently purchased mr and mraverncrawiord have been tenants of the house which was built by cyril brandford the crawfords will live m the penrice home on mcnabb st those who saw the bramp ton centennial parade will be interested to know that w o brownridge of t6wn had a hand in decorating the float which peel agri cultural society entered mr and mrs w j hiller who moved from town to streetsville a few years ago are now living at lynden another former georgetowner mrs h c lewis and daughter suzanne are away on a trip to mexico sidewalk improvements continue to be of primary interest to pedes trians a badly needed new section has been laid along a portion of queen street near the station local businessman leo reimer proprietor of leos electric service smashed his truck in an accident last week and was slightly injured himself with a couple of cracked ribs the accident happened when he was driving from town to his home at vic toria seems odd that st albans church in the glen is sinking a well on the property when in the spring the church is troubled with too much water from the floods however it isnt of the drinking variety printing of voters lists and other printing connected with the federal election makes the herald a busy place these days there will be some bigger papers than usual too for the next month with three candidates and three parties trying hardtowin the election in halton new clerks in both the local banks pauline tyers former bell tel girl is at the royal bank and belle leslie is with the bank of corn- there are people who like to get slightly lost on a sunday drive gives one more of the pioneer spirit to not be sure where they are heading but for those with methodical minds the naming system is certainly wonderful af ter all we can still get lost in peel and wel lington merce we hear news of a former com merce junior jim vandervoort who left the bank when he was here to go west jim is back in ontario again and with therbankrthis time at the atwood oranch someone wants to know why the papermill continues to blow its whistle each morning at 645 and 7 when shift workers all go to work at 630 of course he might be biased being a nearby resident who like that extra half hours sleep in the morning we talked recently with a stratford man who had a dream he thinks the water scarcity in western ontario will ev entually be acute because of the heavy influx of industry and thinks the government should investigate the possibility of creating a huge artificial lake on level land in that area which could be fed by gravity to almost the whole section from there to toronto his idea is to pipe water fom lake huron into the lake and operate is as a public utility like hydro jim taylor of kelmscott farms says we un- erstated his swine sale in a recent issue the sale set an alltime north american record for the breed and exceeded many times the previous canadian record it was the second highest record in north america for all breeds and a single animal brought nearly twice the highest previous price in canada thats what the man said with vacation season here why not give the editor a break and phone in your personals about your visits and visitors we spend the summer listening to every stray conversation and making notes about when people are going away good progress was made the early part of last week in handling some of the 1953 hay crop and what a crop no one should go short of hay this year hay balers would appear to be the popular way of taking off the crop certainly un der present conditions with the shortage of labour it is about the only solution on many farms as one drives through the county ev erything points to a heavy crop as indicated previously the hay crop is excellent the same is true of the fall wheat and in general prospects point to a better than average crop of spring grain during the past week considerable of the corn crop was finally planted while very ideal for quiqk germination and who knows we may still get a fair crop of corn directory alfred j bishop certified public accountant main st georgetown phone
