main street jr and mrs a mcallister re turned last week from a months vacation tour in western canada the doctor and his wife travelled as far west as victoria b c visiting relatives in several parts of the west and seeing some former geor- towners who nowlive in the west leaving georgetown on may 25 they took the international limited to edmonton where there were met by their niece mrs h morrow on the morning of may 28th and after a scenic bus ride oyer the north saskatchewan river on what is known as the low level bridge down a winding street from the cpr hotel arrived at her home for early r breakfast passing a ski jumping frame en route during the next three days auto tours to visit relatives and shopping tours in the city took up their time at the new oil refineries nightly flares may be seen blazing from tall pipes to consume excess oil waste edmonton market woodwards and safeway stores were included in the shopping tours and numerous places of interest were seen on sunday may 31st they were taken by their nephew j a kyle manager of the alberta pacific grain co to knox united church where they heard a niece mrs j w kyle take part in a quartette they visited a nephew scott kyle employed at the municipal air field and met also j a kyles son rus sell who is grain elevator superin tendent in camrose district and following in his father s footsteps in the grain business on coronation day they dined with another nephew j w mcal lister who has just retired as prin apal of westdale high school they viewed fireworks from the river bank but found it tame compared to the cne and the night was too cold for comfort continuing their visits relatives of mrs mcallister mr and mrs waldo enripey enter tained at dinner as did mr and mrs lindsay fraser who live 21 miles north of edmonton in nam ayo district they saw a beaver dam on sturgeon river beside the farm and their herd of polled angus cattle mr empey ls travel ling secretary for the dairymen s as sociation in edmonton district and a prominent member ofthe masonic lodge there the moring of june 5th saw the mcallisters off for vancouver ar riving there the next morning where they secured good accommodation through the travellers aid the weatherman pi t on a good rain for two days and o sunda night while out scouting to fu lion of the cpr wharf for victor ia they were surprised to be hailed from a car on burrard street by david beattle georgetown resident of no 1 normandy blvd the beat- ties left last week to make their home in vancouver iwho returned with them to their room and chat ted about georgetown the next evening mr beattie who is an el ectronics engineer for a guelph firm took them and another former georgetown lady shirley gordon for a long drive across lion s head toll bridge for a view of the city from that newer development across the inlet after a conducted bus tour of stanley park the next day they crossed to victoria on the princess patricia again secured nice rooms and next forenoon took a conducted tour of mrs butchard s sunken gar dens the scenerj there ls magnify icent to put it mildly a former gra vel pit bottom converted into a fal jyland that afternoon june 10th they spent a few hours with c b and mrs- dayfoot former george towners who informed them that seven years ago their city property was but an open field now largely developed far beyond viewing his variety garden they noted the great contrast between their black clay loam and our red clay here he even had a fig tree with fruit on it crossing the next day to vancou ver this time by the princess mar garetta dr and mrs mcallister took a sleeper for edmonton to finish off their visit there sunday morning they attended modougall united church which they had attended in 1913 this is the pioneer protest ant church after the service con ducted by a former pastor rev g harrison villett p a bjd prlncl pal of alberta college and attended by the student body they were pri vileged to step inside the old church building still at the back of the lawn where are kept many relics and several framed photos of george m mcdougall and his wife eliza bcth and of robert rundle first protestant missionary in northwest canada they viewed mount run die going and coming it is the highest peak in the canadian rock ies thta afternoon they were treated to another couple of edmonton tours which included the namayo flying field to the north where large planes land and take oil for calgary and vancouvei or for winnipeg and malton june 15th they spent with relatives viewing the oil well country with its pumps wtorklng and with another nephew and fam ily of dan mcallister and at the home of harvey and mrs coburn where they saw harvey elevating no 3 northern into his dump truck for delivery to local elevators they had planned to attend the canadian medical association dur ing the rweek of june 15th but rain and a bad landslide west of ed monton on the cnr forced them to abandon this instead a planned visit was made with mr and mrs a cram of harris sask mrs cram was a nursein training at carleton county general protestant hospi tal in ottawa where both doctor and mrs mcallister took part of their training mr cram has a urge twoana half section farm a mile long by half a mile wide there they experienced the terrific e over the open prairie before terminating a visit in win nipeg with nephew w h kyle and his wi where mr kyle has been a building contractor for many years they toured the 1950 flooded areas of wlnnjpeft and the adjacent city across the assinabolne and for a considerable distance along seizure he was in his 67th year born in newport monmouthshire engrand he came to canada in 1913 he lived at guelph for 20 years for four years at fergus and two years in the oakvitle district mr adams fol lowed all the rural ball games and sponsored a ball team while living at guelph where he operated a dairy business for fifteen years mr adams was married in 1909 to sarah matilda lewis who sur
