sidewalk improvements should be paid for out of current revenue or by debenture the matter rmt up for discus sion when joseb gibbons requested removal of a tree which blocks his church street driveway the mayor said there was not enough funds in the 20 000 road budget to even cut a tree down and suggested the pos sibility of putti ig sidewalk repairs already made in a debenture issue which would also cover further side walk improvements the mayor wa- supported by cr norton who said there are two par ticularly bad stretches on victoria street and behind the public school which should oe dealt with this year mcgilvray we allowed money for sidewalk wo why try to get back what s already spent we ve got plenty of new debentures coming up already for schools fire hall arid water norton we need sidewalks the one behind the school is in terrible shape mayor we ve spent 18 500 of our 520 000 road budget and were going to have a deficit because of sidewalks which are capital im provements mcgilvray there s no use set ting a budget f you re not going to go iby it mayor we didn t set a budget for new construction and that la what sidewalk work has amounted to norton if you had to watch three or four hundred people ruin ing peoples lawns on victoria st because the sidwalks are not fit to walk on you i agree something must be done its a deplorable sit uation mcgilvray 111 agree to nutting that on debenture hale we re going to have a deficit so i m in favour of deben tures mayor if we debenture the 5 000 already spent we can bal ance our budgft we cant repair any more walks unless this is done macdonald people behind the school are paying taxes the same as anyone else and they are entitled to sidewalks petch i ve kicked about deb entures but it looks as if we have no alternative i d rather raise the tax rate than issue debentures but we cant raise the rate this y with the majority of council oring it the municipal board will asked for approval of a debenture issue for sidewilks chose six of eleven who applied as tenants of the new tire hall apart ment and will interview them at the next council meeting on august 4th will write to 97 delinquent water taxpayers
