points but to one j the physical body is obtaining tore attention than the mental in other words sports have ken over the minds of our young hd older students temporarily at the schedule for interschool by has been drawn up and ghs nobly trying to enter a team slth thompson and blair arm- irong as coaches practices have rted and now until rugby season 2 weeks time you may get ickjed while v alking around he ounds or you may look up and a rampaging student coming ward full steam with head down ut don t let it bother you he lay be practicing or a football iklunge or you never know he may ok like that all the time the ghs field meet was held on onday and stuoents are preparing for the interschool field meet he week following our own r ghs has included in its staff 1 new teacher vho teaches pt as as her other subjects the iris this year are being taught ex- important facts of track field and rules of other games i has pitched right in and it has noticed that she had sacrificed time from 4 oclock to 5 o clock i order to instruct the girls prop- in track and field miss par- lon is doing an excellent job ind if the girls respond to the ac tivities as much as miss parkinson shown her willingness to help school should improve greatly athletic proficiency 9 a report john mileham well here we are back to the old nd the first week of school ht a rather unpleasant task the grade niners as it was init- on week as we strolled up town pie looked at us as if to say here did you escape from on first day of initiation we boys to wear ties which displeased of them the girls had a very hairdo with one side in i and the other in pin curls the following day the boys pret- up with rouge and perfume girls looked pretty silly car- their books in sixquart bas- on wednesday the boys off their legs by wearing t pants the girls had to wear and carry toothbrushes and jton thursday we wore our shirts friday brought the of inflation with the boys ring 2 different socks fulled up their tjttnts tbft girls looked cute wth thefar blouses out- of their tunic some got sat the fountain and i myself got j to a football field standard for doing or wearinc what i was friday afternoon we celebra- j the dosing of initiation week r bavlnf a party for all at which i grade niners re a free bot- i of pop ail in au initiation was a lot of fun editorial don souther the students of georgetown high school are going to have another fling at publishing a big weekly newspaper last year was the first time we had tried to write a news paper on a large scale and some say we succeeded but some say we didnt but good or bad were going to try to publish in the com ing months a more satisfactory newspaper that truly represents ghs its thoughts and views this year we are hoping to enlarge our staff and reorganize the newspaper in general wo hope that ue will get the same fine support from our readers as we did last year this year ghs is literally bulging at the seams with students eager for knowledge and consequently all the available space is being used events have hapened since our last edition in that we now have the beginnings of our long awaited school riiing next door we would like to welcome alt of our first- formers and new students and teach ers to the school and wish them every success m their work we all hope that the students will try hard this year to attain highest marks and awards to keep the name of ghs a proud one we also hope that in the editions to come we can interest and serve you to the best of the ability of the staff of high tales high tales only source of news this year high tales will be the only source from which the news of ghs will bo published last year an excellent school column was written by leona conn but leon a has decided to leave school and consequently there will be only one official column for ghs school enlarges staff enlarges a new addit en to the staff of ghs is miss parkinson a french english and pt teacher who gra duated last year from ontario col lege of education so far miss par kinson has not left ghs sq we guess that she still likes it there even if her initiation was a bit rough miss parkinson now lives in geor- ketov n but some of her relatives live in brampton and operate par kinson bus l ines there it is safe to say thdt miss parkinson is well liked for her kt nial humour and personality wo hope miss parkin son will make hor home at ghs and income a pait ot this great institu tion close the doors theyre coming in the windows ghs is really full this year so full that the science lab has been made into a classroom there are no desks in the lab and students have to keep their books in boxes and on the floor which makes it a little rough for grade lfl who now reside there the sooner the new school is finished the better is the attitude of grade 10 because of the inconvenience caused by keeping books in boxes or on the floor there is general crowding through out the school with most of the seats filled or overflowing a dras tic drop in the size of middle school was noted this year last year there were approimately 35 students tn 3rd form and there are only 12 of the 35 now attending 4th form 3 left ini grade xi and 8 are in in comm special bill hancox has left to attend scarboro c i many students left to take up jobs which seems plentiful to high school stud ents initiation or my poor dignity bev hyde last friday at noon you prob ably noticed a troop of grade f students yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs well there was a reason for that initiation was over and the students could once more become students much to their happiness all week the grade 9 students had to bow to their seniors you practically had to choke some of them to make them budge but we made up for that heres the list girls monday different socks one side of their hair in pick curls tuesday carry all books in baskets shine all senior girls shoes wed jeans and carry tooth brushes thursday carry books on heads at all times friday wear blouses outside tunics wear green hair ribbons boys monday bow ties tues day opposite ioeks outside pants kouge and perfume wednesday short pants and hair ribbons thurs day shirts worn backwards friday jeans rolled to knees and knee socks all of the girls and boys were good sports about the whole affair and so a party was held for them on friday afternoon there were baseball and v t ments in which all grades took part and refrophmeni were served af terwards and everyone had a good time choir hopes to enter three festivals bev hyde school has settled down once ag ain so the teachers hope anyway in the same old groove flyswat ters guns slingshots etc have all been emptied into one big dra wer and no one seems to be able to find the key but getting to the choir we hope to enter three festi vals this year and voice testing has already started at noon hour eery day you can hear some songs being sung choke at the school in fact you can hear them three blo ks away it al ways seems to be the same ol songs for some unknown reason maybe its because the pianist doesn t know any others or omething or other this little paragraph all ties in with the fact that no one has a volte left when it comes to choir period and a few cci tain people arc beginning to wonder why lets hope thy never find out resigns as caretaker georgetown high school cire- taker for 8 years john evans has resigned eftet 1 1 t at the end of september mr evans ha been very popular with both the stuff and students and will be greatly missed he has been employed at the school since 1925 and recalls many an april fool or halloween prank he always enjoyed a good joke with the stud ents or a prank on the teacher however for some time he has been troubled with arthritis and his decision to retire has been forced by his inability to cary on the work it will not seem quite the same school without john evans and his cheery smile 10a report terry harley well only nine more months till summer holiday c 5 begin nine months of classes parties football soccer and other goings on common to ghs if not to the rest of the world cadets and the football team are still in low gear incidentally there was a hold up in the operation of issuing cadet uniforms which will make the cadets wait perhaps a couple ot weeks before getting their outfits it seems the entire ward robe was sent to a military clean ers and returned with the same old familiar dirt stains and wrinkles you know the old saying if at first you dont succeed let someone else do it so central command will look into th matt rjefirsttormera have completed their assigned duties to become fully initiated from a teachers point of view but a bit of law- breaking not tp mention neck breaking etc on the part of up per school may yet come as if i wasnt sure its not of any importance but quite a few dogs thats as close as i can describe them have trotted into the school- they might- mak better marks than some of the grade x at that late starter you cant run to your insurance agent for more insurance while your home la going up in flames now before disaster
