the georgetown wt wednesday evening oct 21sfc 1993 page s traffic problems investigated still another problem which besets a growing town is traffic control and council is wisely investigating possible measures of control at several dangerous spots the two most troublesome places down town are at the four corners and at the john street intersection with no 7 highway here consideration is being given to installing traf fic lights and if this should be done it will give georgetown its first such signals at pre sent a warning blinker at john street is the only such contraption in town lirruts important too with the heavy ugh way traffic which streams along no 7 aretwo dan gerous crossings to public schools until last year there was only one school to worry about to which half the town children had to cross a busy highway on theiiv way to school construction of the new wngglesworth school intensified this problem when many from theeast part of town were transferred to pot poutri recently moved to georgetown where they are making their home with mr and mrs william fleming mountainview road are mr and mrs o m moore the moores recently sold their home on the 7th line past balhnafad to mr and mrs r f walker mr and mrs andy mino have moved to town from glen williams and are living m the house on king street where mr and mrs w burtenshaw formerly lived a new smith stone man from oshawa frank em ery his wife and daughter have moved into the mino home in the glen ivan crabtree thinks it worthy of note that three little mouths to feed joined the provincial paper or ganization within a few days recently proud parents are mr and mrs alex reader and mr and mrs poul nielsen each a son and mr and mrs dan kidd a daughter though we didn t happen to ee him and hence did not mention him as a fall fair visi tor one of those who enjoyed the day was john nickell of eden mills who formerly farmed at limehouse mr niokell who is 85 now has only missedthe fair twice in 75 years a noted fiddler he exhibited horses the new school no one will argue that the old crossing is dangerous though somewhat aided by traffic in one direction going uphill and from the other rounding a curve which tends to slow cars down the new crossing has neither of these compensating factors and is therefore a major menace two near trag edies have already occurred this year in spite of vigilant supervision at the crossing and an improved system cannot come too soon a delegation of parents at the last school board meeting were assured by the board of cooperation in taking the matter to council which already had discussed it on their own here it is possible manual traffic lights may be the answer the delegation also asked for a guard rail along the narrow stretch of buried sidewalk from durham street to the school crossing and this too would be a blessing not only to schoolchildren but in fact to any ped estnan whp uses this dangerous right of way vegetables and grain on numerous occasions while he did not see too many people he knew he was interested to see young faces which reminded him of friends who had pas sed away who are no doubt relatives he missed seeing his neighbour billy lane but did meet mark given murray somerville from the west called on him recently as well as another old friend john devereaux mi and mrs jim golden kaye mpved into the house on
