gbosuwtovin mmu iwadimday bvenlng oct mb ims fataa high tales published by students of georgetown high school volume 2 no 19 wednesday evening oct 28th 1933 georgetown ontario beat preston after dropping acton game tbe day was perfect the tun was beating down the sky was a crystal clear blue and the cool call air made our minds keen and our bodies full of life and vigor the leaves were falling gently and gracefully to the ground as we rode up to acton in one of our jub ilant moods happy gay and suiting the weather to a t all this goes to show you things can go our way but when that ghs football team stepped on the field and until it strolled off 1 hours later we were sure the sky had become overcast and that black sullen clouds were pouring down a cold freezing rain nasty and bit ing it felt and any extra thinking on our part was an effort acton won the game 15 7 and a disappointed grumbling and dis gusted ghs football team rode home in silence news broke that an exhibition game was scheduled for us october 22nd and preston was the opposi tion our principal then took a hand in our affairs called a pro per team meeting and ironed out our difficulties and new plays were set confidence set back in again and all were happy and gay then down came preston by the end of the first half it looked life a repetition with preston leading 10 0 but after sucking our lemons at tb half time we went out again more determined than ever sandy mackenzie ran back a kick for our first touchdown then calvin king jumped on a preston fumble be hind the line and added another 5 points jerry scott added the winning touchdown and believe it or not we won that game 1510 singing filled the air andjaces smiled once again oh everything seemed fine and stili is to this day a comment bv our coaches mr lambert blair armstrong keith thompson caught our ears they think we do have a chance to claim the next match with acton nothing could please us better we learn the county town boys have a few ringers again never theless acton squeezed out a 20 16 win against them it looks like the closest fight in years for the ross challenge trophy win lose for ag acton 2 0 35 to dig up something to write on and here it is in the cadet departments the girls have been after mr prouse to al low them to take dhooting practice in the armouries now the only part of the building which is lead lined is that behind the targets so if the girls get permission to fire the 22 s the task of lining the floor ceiling and side walls with lead should be considered halloween is on the way and the garden gates bird baths and any thing lying in the yard on oct 31st will soon be on its way out last year both the ghs football stand ards were torn down but this year we fed sure that that won t hap pen again because we only put one in pt i heard two boys talking about their dogs one said my do is just like one of the family tht attar fetain came back with one editorial l00hey bin hello folks were back again georgetown ha every riaht to but not all in ona piece i think if be proud of its ruty team al- to f cmai though we did lose our first came mea dipped ut of 5 j george ble society program now officer elected rev w buhngsley spoke at a meeting in st pauls church ner val following tbe sunday evening service in which he told of the importance of the work of the bible society the meeting was arranged by the nerval committee of the upper canada bible society and an elec tion of officers was held mrs m guy wilson being chosen president other officers are sam mcclure secretary walter pidler treasurer harry perkins acted as secretary specialists in to acton basically ghs has an ex cellent team all of our players are fair minded and good sports men which is something to boast about ghss team has every chance of capturing the cup even though they were beaten in their first game with the game with preston georgetown proed that losing one game doesn t spoil their spir it a big hand should be given to th fffl who willingly give their time to the team the cheer leaders are by far the best of those we have seen a little more coop eration from the students with the cheer leaders in their calls would make their job a lot easier the team certainly- has plenty of spirit and we wish them luck in the games to come in this edition every form in the school is duly represented with addition of then looney bin fifth form ann the grade xi re port all the big events of ghs are spread before you we would like to welcome these new form writers and wish them every success in writing for such a umph good newspaper at last we e got some new calls for once ghs cheer leaders have come up with some good cheer leading calls for several centuries the cheer leaders of ghs have been shouting out the same old ngenmoorolc liut now geor- getow n has emerged out of the mediaeval days as lonj as they can get a few more fcood calls may be we can shout other school s cheer leaders down 9a report john mtlehra well many who were looking forward to going to the red fea ther football game on the bus got a little disappointment because there didn t seem to be enough go ing to pay for the bus there was a game at the park on thursday to which everybody from our room went it was a good game and we all enjoyed especially as georgetown won it choir report iljde bev it or not i really mean say that there s no news cadet news views boss mcvgilvray all cadets are requested to get full uniforms and prepare for the armistice day parade there should be a good showing from the high school so brush up on marching and drill the parade will be to the cenotaph from the armouries forr the remembrance day serv ices our faithful assistant instructor sgt teeter ha again come out to help with the cadet corps on wed jiesday evenings note change from tuesday evenings there is rifle firing on wednesday and thurs day after four some of the girls are firing too most of the girls are better shots than the boys believe it when i this week a triple- trio has been picked to enter the kiwnnii festival in ioronto the song is very beauti jul and the blend of the trio is very good so a pretty good show ing will be made even if we do have to compete against people from all over the city and province the choir both boys and girls have been invited to sing at the ev ening service at st john s united church on november 22 we have many new songs which i m sure you will enjoy 1 m afraid i mode a mistake at the first of this column i should have said this is the first week i have had any real news now 1 11 go on for a month or so again with no news oh urll such is life and the choir report our bodies to start a butcher shop we lost the game 157 well now have a one minute silence all the scoring for our side was confined to 2 men both looney bin gen tlemen ron happerdlnk ritchie scored our toucltdown and don rubber knees anderson caught their quarterback behind the line for two points the next game was worse than the game everybody was limping around and could hardly move our smiling principal came into the room and had tne nerve to ask us if we d played a football game lately one joyful note resulted from the game we saw johnny crutch evans our school building super intendent at the game old faith ful even gave us our lemons during half time our form teacher miss parkin son is a big meany as far as we re concerned she keeps picking on those poor lower schoolers every day one of then comes whipping into our room before nine and gives her a detention which he had to do another guy who ain t happy is me our darling editor don sou ther keeps asking for these reports a day ahead each week pretty soon we poor reporters will be writing reports for a paper two months ahead another disappointing factor at the softball game was the spirit of ghs bovs the acton cheerers out- cheered ou evcij time it is of no help to jour team if you vvont cheer your cheerleaders are doing a fine job but can t do it all so when we play our games lei s hear omc cheers from the georgetown boys too well that s enough for now see you in two weeks aufvviedersehen it was demanded each innocent little face turned in the direction from which this came with a be wildered look upon its counten ance what could be the cause of this roar a few people were sear ched and questioned of course no lone knew how the blinds could have possibly gotten into their present situation blinds can fall themselves you know quite pos sible quite possible we all sat waiting for our sent ence to be given perhaps one thousand lines of shakespeare to each member of the class would be bestowed but w e were foiled the blinds were replaced to their usual position by order of the judge then the latter stormed out as quickly as he had come in and all was at peace if that is all that comes of pulling blinds i guess the excitement seekers will have to think of something else for next time it will probably be the mis chief of behaving themselves if you had enough patience to stick with us this far we take the honour of awarding you with the grade xi supporters award for bravery sherring read the minutes of the last meeting mrs wilson urged the collectors in norval and district to try to have au their returns in before the third week in december a recorded cap n grade xi if you had paed by here on the day of october 14 early in the p m you no doubt would have not iced an unusual darkness about our classroom a team of excite menl seekers uho found lift much too dull decided to enrobe our room with a loud of darkness in plain english they pulled the blind down we were completely foiled when the first teacher seem ed not lo notice a thing but polite ly suggested tn we press rather hard with the chalk as the room seemed to be sightly black this atmosphere remained for some time interrupted only when sus- piciqus looking strangers pecked in through the window above the door on their way up or down the stairs one of these inquisitive peo ple was one one who could have stopped the fun with a snap of his fingers but the all iswell signal was flagged by one of our counter spies time rapidly vanished and we wondered if we d have to strain our eyes all day without recogni hon alas our doom bad to come near the end of the first period tbe door leading from our dark dun geon to tbe exterior was thrown open and there ft stood s fire from its fnouth and spears and daggers from naeyea wbo done the crow and the pitcher a thirsty crow bond a pitcher with some water m it but little was there that by as aha might she could not reach it wii her beak and it seemed as though she would die of thirst within sight of the remedy at last she hit upon a clever plan she began dropping pebbles into die pitcher and with each pebble the water rose a little higher until at last it reached the brim and the knowing bud was enabled to quench her
