a hurricane in mid atlantic they left new york on january 21at a friday and oh the following wednesday afternoon the wind became very high and the wavra started to get mountainous the wea ther grew worse during the night the crew had to stay on 24hour duty and no one alept sleep was impossible because the boat waa rolling and pitching so much that chain were flying all over over the place and the wind and waves ahatltred many of the windows the paasrngera were buffeted shout some suffering broken ribs and cuts re quiring alliens nearly everyone was bruised ura iruat included 0 ihourino tmi worst atlan tic atorm in many years the ship had to tuid around and head bark to halifax uany of the passen gers sworihat if they ever reached llslrtai they would get off the boat however after a couple of days the atorm became less severe and the franconia decided to alter course once more end set sail again for ring- land the passsge still continued very rough however and the passengers bad to wear life preservers at all times and were not allowed out on deck during all this upheaval how ever and we imagine there was plenty in more ways than one mn prust did not become seasick she never missed a meal we wondered how they could ever serve the meals with the boat in auch heavy aeaa but urs pruat told us of a couple of waya they have to offset the upsetting con ditions one way is to thoroughly wet the tablecloth so that the dishes wont alide around then to prevent them from falling on the floor they put up little sides the tables are especially provided with to help prevent the paiscnccr from falling on the floor the crew put up a regular network of rop when needed ai mrs lrml said the excitement of never knowing what was coming next helped keep her irom becoming panicky in ftict there was surpris ingly little fear shown considering another factor which probably help ed was that the krancunia a 20000 ton ship was carrying only 300 pas sengers which is only about half her normal capacity aa a result of the hurricane the franconia was 50 hours late docking in britain 4 however once in britain the weatherman smiled and dur ing all the weeks she was there mrs prusl enjoyed the sunshine she arrived in scotland in time to cele brate her fathers nut birthday with him 11 has been 20 yeara alnce her last visit home she enjoyed some ri fle shooting while there it is quite a popular sport with the ladlea in scotland and fun too mrs prust found in england whlls viaiting mr i trusts relatives she enjoyed tour ing the country devon tmpreascd her particularly with ita lovely old stone walls and narrow streets the travelling itself was a pleasure on the trains in england meal aervicc waa particularly good and quite rea sonable in prlco since the franconia had come thru the hurricane ao well mra 1rust decided to book pas sage on her again for the return trip to canada but the franconia waa still having troubles the big dock strike waa on in england when she waa scheduled to sail and the franconia had to sail without cargo the aea waa very rough on the jour ney home and moat passengers were seasick we asked mra pruat if ahe were glad to be home and aa you mightsuspect the answer came in a pretty strong affirmative one thing tho ahe aald that now when she hears of aome ship being in distress ahe will be able to visu al lie what it moans if were ever
