pace with required services in an expanding town was forecast by mayor jack armstrong in his inaugural speech to council monday the mayor said georgetown must be kept attractive to newcomers who seek a town with a fair tax rate but also one in which essential services such as waterworks roads and side walks are adequate he particularly stressed completion of the maple ave link between the highway and main street as being im- portant this year it would provide not only a needed traffic artery he said but also un access for pupils in one section of town who might at tend a new public schood which is be ing built in the eastern part of town the zoning bylaw and its attendant establishment of a planning board will be a very important part of this years business he forecast mr armstrong said also that geor getown must continue its plans for in dustrial expansion with new indus tries balancing the residential assess ment welcoming new members lcroy dale and alfred sykes as well as the six returning council members reeve stan allen deputy reeve doug sar gent garfield mcgilvray harry hale irwin noble and walter gray the ma yor reminded them that they have ga thered for a common briefly as the dinner concluded expressing his pleasure at again being host on such a happy occasion public high schools crowded v town now employs 37 teachers 9 2790844 total parents visit school grade 9 open night on monday evening from 730 till 9 00 it was open night for parents of pupils in the four grade nine class rooms in georgetown high school parents hid the opportunity to view the school and to interview the var- tout teachers in their own form 325075 rooms with enrolment at an alltime high or 073 the two georgetown public schools opened last week for the 1956 term with a staff now the new knox church hall is also being used the 12room wrigglcsworth school also has every classroom filled and besides the auditorium has been split for use of two extra classes plans are being rushed for a third public school which will be built in the delrex area of town and when this is completed the present school buildings wilt revert to their former status a second small high school or a complete new building is also under discussion for the high school which anticipates that four extra classrooms will b needed in september mean while the old third floor science room abandoned when
