fee of 6 a meeting plus mileage interpretation of what composes subdivision was a point for argument at mondays council meeting when a law firm representing properly own er frank deakin asked about con structing 15 houses on property which he owns on elm street mr deakin purchased the 5 acre property in 1954 from mayor arm strong and at that time was free to ko ahead with his building he asked in a letter if there had been any chan ges in local laws since there have been a subdivision bylaw passed last sum mer makes the builder of one this size pay a 300 per lot service charge plus supplying his own roads sewers sidewalks and watcrmalns mayor armstrong questioned whe ther the deakin property could be called a subdivision as all lots face on existing streets and he interprets a subdivision as a property in which new roads are opened reeve allen said that two of the roads have never been opened and it would be a costly procedure for the town but ho would certainly not ex pect to charge a man for building en lots facing completed streets were going to have quite a time explaining to the public if we allow one person to build 15 houses and prohibit others said cr leroy dole cr alfred sykcs asked if the lots were taxed individually or as one par cel of land and when he was told in dividually he said that this is the de ciding factor in his opinion if a property has not been so split up he said he would consider it a subdiv ision regardless of streets cr garfield mcgilvray opined that the 1954 council has made certain commitments to mr deakin and he thinks these should be honoured last year council had dealt similarly with owners of the swanck subdivision he pointed out mayor armstrong said that the moore property on main st n which has extensive highway frontage would fall in the same category the own ers have been paying certain taxes for services and he would not consi der houses built along the highway as a subdivision the reeve agreed with him in this opinion mr dale asked why the subdivision bylaw had been passed it is his un derstanding that the reason for it was because too many houses were being built and the residentialindus trial balance was getting out of line council finally decided to ask mr deakin for a plan of what he intends to do with the property and no deci sion was made ai to what action coun cil will tike council decided to continue mem bership in the tricrhan board with milton and acton the town how ever does not share in joint engin eering costs as georgetown last year engaged its own town engineer a 60 rebate was given to carxuth- ers construction for building permits issued for building 4 houses on main street north mr carrulhers explained that after taking out the permits last year he had been unable to secure permission from the dcpt of highways to build within less than 35 feet of the prop erty line meanest thief steals chance from paper box many times ye have all walked by the globe anfl mail
