chamber of commerce still hangs in the balance those who did attend the meeting on tuesday evening struck a more optimislc note when they decided to advertise the aims and objects of such a cham ber by a canvass of all businessmen in the absence of president john gunn through illness william hamil ton took the chair for the meeting with charles wray secretary the meeting was thrown open for discus sion and each in turn expressed their views the general feeling was that the chamber could play a very valu able part in the life of the community hut it was hard to define just what their aim should be harold mcclure stressed that a ch imber of commerce could act as a liason body between the municipal council and the citizens and industry he said it was most important now that the town was growing so rap rity he felt that the chamber could be op erated in sections although it must serve industry businessmen and citi zens equally as well dick licata said the businessmen were confused as to who the chamber represented whether it was the downtown business section or if it in eluded tbe merchants in the other parts of town also harold bairstow suggested that the support ot all merchants and industry be enlisted to see if the chamber could not be continued and from this suggestion a committee of four was delceited to contact industry and merchints jick cnchton and ron mcndham will be in charge of indiu trial ind sam meltzer and chic jew ell will contact merchants and report to an executive meeting m two weeks time william brcckenndge of vtnan associates said the local newspaper should be used more extensively for publicity of the chamber a t ntative date of march 13th was set for the annual meeting at which time it was proposed to have a spea iter from the canadian chamber of commerce set out the aims and ob jects of such a group and get the nimher back on the right footing the meeting will be held in the rose room and the present executive hope for i representative
