service station early fri day morning were apprehended by guelph police before the robbery was reported to the local police it was the second break in at doug woods new service station on the highway no trace of the previous thieves has been found mr woods reported theft of ap proximately 50 from his desk to pol ice at 3am friday morning police chief roy haley contacted neighbour ing police district sara ann glcndinning 81 died last wednesday following a len gthy illness the daughter of the late robert glcndinning and the former mao noble miss lcndinmng was born in illinois usa she came with her parents to canada at a very early age and lived for man years near the v 1 lage of norval she was a devoted member of st paul s church and had been made a life member of the woman s auxil lary of the anglican church as a gift from the st paul s branch at one time miss glcndinning worked in osh awa nt the church of england home for children of missionaries in foreign lands following the death of her father she lived with a nephew rev r w coupland and carried on with her church work both in noa scotia and prince edward island and was pre paring to go with him to homings mi s when she was stricken nearly three years ago miss glendinmng was predeceased by her only sister mrs c w coup- land of norval she will be greatly missed by her nephews and niece warwick roy and mary mrs j f dinner the new executive of georgetown chamber of commerce met at north halton golf club yesterday for dinner and discussed plans for this year the new chairman harold bairstow off ciated they talked about a planned pro gramme which will interest everyone and set next tuesday as the date for the first general meeting which will be held at 8 pm in the municipal building an invitation is extended to any resident of town and district who is interested in the work of the chamber substation operator for electric railway a georgetown resident since 1920 when he came here as substation op erator for the electric railway which operated between toronto and kitch ener george alcott 75 died last wednesday at his home 44 main st south he had been ill for two years mr alcott was born in london england son of the late charles and mary alcott and in 1901 married lil ban rowe they came to canada in 1907 and resided in toronto where he was a ttc motorman he en listed in 1914 with the 19th battalion and served overseas for four years of the war after the war he took the george town position with the electric rail way whose station was in the build ing now housing georgetown dairy and was substation operator until the company went out of business several years ago he was one of the original mem bci m branch 120 canadian legion and after the first war took an active part in the reserve army attending summer camps and serving in the quartermaster stores he was an ar dent hockey fan throughout the years until his illness kept him home from the games members of the legion paid their respects at a service at the funeral home on thursday night surviving are his wife and seven chlldrcnvftgordon of weston mrs floyd varey lillian mrs william hillior edith flora ernest mrs frank king ethel and mrs dennis wright dorothy all of georgetown 12 grandchildren 5 great grandehil dren a sister mrs ernest cooper of toronto and two brothers charles and walter in london england he was predeceased by two children in infancy joseph and annie rev morgan mcfarlane conducted the funeral service on friday at the harold c mcclure funeral home he was assisted by the rev bogga of weston
