the mayor of guelph harold suitter hide an object known only to the mayor within a mile of the the atre wearing a blindfold which had been tested by mayor suitter and oth ers before he began his walk in search of the object nixon was followed by a crowd of more than a hundred as he made his way unaided through the streets of guelph he crossed streets and went around buildings without bumping into anything the crowd was frankly skeptical of his ever loc ating the hidden article the mayor was the only person m guelph who knew what and where it was how could it be possible but according to the guelph mercury as nixon ap proached the coop doorway he seemed to bo nervous he che eked around the door then paused suddenly he took hold of the door handle thumbed the latch and walked inside pausing briefly facing the counter he held out his hands turned back to the left and walked to a door that was barely noticeable he opened the door and without even putting his head through the opening reached behind the wall and lifted up a can of redd whip when mayor suitter nodded that that was what he had hidden the crowd of more than 100 favc a loud cheer the great nix on s tour had him mute evi dencc that the climes of winter are having their last innings o it s interesting to see how hypnoti m and mind reading have caught the fancy of the tv entertainers and there s no de nying its a fascinating study per sonally my fascination with such things is tinged with a bit of fear too the scope of hypnotism in many fields is tremendous but before it can be accepted by people universally for the benefits it can brink about for in stance m the field of medicine den tistry and so on that n ggling little fear most people have of anyone tarn penng with or controlling their mind must be removed most of the hypt notists now appearing are entertain ers however and again there s no denving it is a most entertaining art i have heard it said and read too that there is absolutely no harm in being hypnotized if it is done b a sensible responsible person as a matter of fact the other night on ttv a hypnotist said we arc all be ng subtly hypnotized all the time espec tally by advertising i remember one newspaper convention we attended a hyp notist was the featured entertainer of the eenmg he asked for volunteer subjects from the audience and got more than his required quota how eer some of the volunteers just could not be hnotizcd so he ended up with about eight or nine newspa per people who were willing and re ceptivc ti hjpnotism some people dont believe that the subjects are realh asleep but if they wanted proof that even ng they could have had it when thc saw a beautiful young woman with a sleek hairdo really give that faultlessly coiffed head of hair the works when the hypnotist suf gested that she give herself a foo 1 shampoo she was so energetic i 11 swear she had every hair standing straight up on her head before she was through and here is the point the fact that her hair was in such a state in front of all those people bo thcrcd her not a whit the hypnotist smoothed it down for her a little so she would look more presentable this same girl also provided for me what was one of the most inter estlng experiments of the evening the hypnotist gave her a slip of pa per telling her that she was ten years old and asked her to write her name he passed the slip of paper around to let us see that she had printed in childish letters her maiden name incidentally this girls husband was also hynotized at the same time and his reae tions were completely opposite to hers he went to sleep all right when bid to do so but he was so soundly asleep that the hypnotist couldn t get through to kim at all he made ab solutely no response to any bidding he was out like a light 9 the going to sleep process was the best part of the whole process according to another newspaperman who was hypnotized i overheard him remark to the hynot 1st afterwards that hed give a thous and dollars if he could drop off to sleep like that every night to which the hypnotist replied that he had cur ed several had cases of insomnia with one or more treatments and per haps this chap who was plagued with sleeplessness would like to try a treatment now nothing daunted our hero agreed and in nothing flat he was sleeping peacefully on the stage i often wtgtdered since if the treat sent worked 0 in thi ouilph paper last week there was floite a t sscin ating front page article about a mindreader called the great nil rcavsctor sprngfesfival at mi
