when an op en house was held at the new community swimming pool originally planned as an inspec tion day the committee decided la ter to allow swimming and there was a happy group splashing about in the afternoon and early evening in a preview of things to come the day was designed to ac quaint the public with the con struction of the 50000 pool ev erything was labelled with a price tag and visitors saw exactly where the money had been spent a company representative was pres ent to explain how the filtration system works and visitors were allowed in the basement room where this equipment operates meanwhile another canvass cam paign is ready to raise the 15000 still needed before the pool will open for good the committee is optimistic that opening will be possible in the next week or two it is dependent on how successful moneyraising efforts are the li ons club hope that several thous and dollars will come from a giant bingo in the arena friday night ballinafad mission band conducts sunday church service the mission band had charge of a program sunday evening in the church jean lawr and mary ba ker led in the worship service grant baker and gary sang solos and bonnie cotton played a selec tion on the violin slides were shown entitled jane and bobbies adventure during a social hour in the basement rev and mrs g mefarlane of georgetown were present rev mefarlane spoke a few words of encouragement and commendation to mr and mis g townsend lunch was served at the close mrs townsend was presented with several gifts from the church groups our best wish es go with the townsends to their new home in wellandport the wa and wi members and friends enjoyed a bus trip to brantford and port dover thurs day returning home via hamilton mr and mrs bert mcmcnemy and urday june 16th at 330 pm when barbara jean mclaughlin daugh ter of mr and mrs hamilton mc laughlin r r 2 norval became the bride of james robert gray son of mr and mrs george gray r r 4 brampton the bride was a member of the brampton bell telephone staff before her mar riage the church was beautifully decorated with large standards of white yellow and orchid mums rev e gill officiated with ruth wilson r r 1 norval organist kathleen coombs of brampton was the soloist singing o perfect love before the service the lords pra yer during the service and the wedding hymn while the register was being signed the bride given in marriage by her father chose a white nylon gown over net and satin floor length with bouffant skirt her fingertip veil fell from a head dress fashioned of seed pearls and drop pearls her flowers were a semicascade bouquet of while mums and stephanotis nancy gray the grooms sister acted as maid of honour wearing orchid coloured nlon over net and taffeta carolyn over pink with pink accessories and a corsage of pink carnations the grooms mother assisted wearing a christian dior blue lace dress with pink accessories and corsage of pink carnations i the bride left on their honey moon wearing a pink dress with white accessories and a white car nation corsage mr and mrs gray will live on the grooms farm at r r 1 cheltenham graduation dinner for two grade 8 classes georgetown home and school association sponsored a gradua tion dinner last monday june 25 attended by sixtysix graduating pupils the executive of the home and school association and mem bers of both teaching staffs the dinner was held in st johns memorial hall and was prepared by the mothers of the pupils l l skucc public school inspec tor for halton county and guest speaker for the evening sat at the head table with principal william kinrade and harold henry mrs joe emmerson president of home and school sam penrice past pre sident of the association ray sal ter chairman of georgetown pub lic school board and r bornhold inspector for halton county mr skuce later gave an address to the graduates stressing the fact that they should continue to learn even after school graduation he concluded his talk by quoting my native land mrsjfoe emmerson made a pre sentation to the home and school social conveners mrs gordon lane and mn william collier who ar- rangeduhe diner and thanked them for their work throughout the past year mr kinrade was presented with a gift from the members of the grade 8 graduating class the pre sentation was made by sharon say- en and anthony cinnaraond pat sykes of chapel street and lois niven of howard wriggles- worth school gave impressions and memories of their respective schools after dinner toasts were made to the queen by lynne hyde to the home and school and to the teach ers by bob salter to the chapel street graduates by diane hill and to howard wrigglesworth gra duates by gary teeter the graduates were treated to a social time over thirty years mrs jonathan lane 75 died on friday at her heme she had been in failing health for several months formerly annie poole davies she came to canada after her fiiat husbands death making her home for a time with his brother eli davies and family of limehouse she continued to live in lime house after mr lanes death in 1940 surviving are one daughter lily mrs john benton and a grandson frank benton rev alex calder conducted the funeral service on monday at the harold c mcclure funeral home georgetown with interment fol lowing in limehouse cemetery pallbearers were chris swackham- er ron davies henk porte fred and albert brooks and arthur benton nursing graduate mary beckett youngest daughter of mr and mrs thom as beckett ontario street grad uated from the nursing school of hamilton genera hospital rec ently church ladies entertain st johns united choir last wednesday evening some 45 members of the choir of st johns united church with their wives and husbands were given a tur key banquet in the memorial hall by the ladies of the wc nens asso ciation the tables were decorated with spring flowers and candles and af ter the group had dinner there was a short program and singsong led by norman laird choirmaster bernard shrubsolc thanked the ladies of the wa for their thought- fulness in entertaining the choir with mrs harold cleave replying a few remarks from rev morgan mefarlane on the church and choir working together and the singing of blest be the tie that binds brought an enjoyable evening to a close if st fevw these smiling brownies from norval had a accident school staff says goodbye s teachers five teachers leaving the wrig glesworth public school staff this term were guests of fellow staf fers on june 25th the teachers assembled after school at the home of mrs j f gillis king street where they had lea vice principal harold catling presented gifts to thomas allison who has a new position as principal of erin public school to lois menary who is leaving teaching for a business position to marion scarlett and jean ruddell who will be staff members of the new harrison school and to win- nifred ivens principals assistant at both schools who ts retiring principal william kinrade spoke briefly thanking teachers for their cooperation during the year and wishing departing teachers well in their new fields of endeavour christening party for university of toronto james booth schenk 18 of glen williams was instantly killed ear ly sunday morning in a motor acci dent on highway 12 near midland he was driver of a small truck which went out of control and he struck a telephone pole with george lowin georgetown and gordon preston glen williams the accident victim had left satur day night on an early morning fishing trip all three were thrown from the truck when it struck the pole the passengers were only slightly in jured jim pinned beneath the truck died of a broken neck born in glen williams he was the youngest of the ten children of mr churches sponsor vacation bibleschool a daily vacation bible school is to be held this year under the joint auspices of st johns united church and first baptist church for boys and girls 611 years each morning 9 1130 from july 4th to 13th the opening worship per iod will be held in st johns hall and then there will be a division into two groups the primary chil dren 68 years will spend the re mainder of the morning at first baptist the older children will remain at st johns the programme will include wor ship singing bible study games and handcraft there is no fee for the school but an offering will be received to pay the expenses it is hoped that all girls and boys will accept this as a general invitation the school is open to all and not just to mem bers of first baptist and st
