spring turn your clock back an hour when you go to bed saturday night or you might be an hour early for church late family mr and mrs keith macdonald sandy and bruce ross of malton and ruth and joyce discussion on a suggestion by owners of the iga supermarket that they be allowed to build a temporary wooden storage shed at the rear of the store which could be ordered taken down if and when a service road runs at the read of hignway frontages took a great deal of council s time mon day some councillors were favour able to such a plan if it were am ended to allow a future council to order the building dismantled wi thout the service road restriction up to the present council has ac ted on advice of georgetown plan ning board in refusing a building permit for any rear addition which would contravene a clause in the proposed zoning bylaw requiring a 30 foot allowance behind com mcrcial buildings the status quo was maintained after a motion by councillors s kes and hale which would allow a temporary structure found support only from cr mcgilvray it was a recorded vote and mayor arm strong stated several reasons why he would not vote for the motion the mayor said he would not want to overrule the planning board that consideration would also have to be given to neighbour ing residences that he would like to postpone any decision until rate payers in the district have a chance to speak at a forthcoming public meeting called by the planning board and that present town by laws do not allow council to issue a building permit for a building designated temporary the discussion followed reading of a letter from the downey shand and robertson law firm suggesting the plan otherwise the letter stated iga will proceed to ask for a mandamus to force george town to issue a building permit deputy reeve sargent was out spoken against any change it would suprise me if any fu ture council ordered a building torn down he said if this is al lowed we might u well tell the planning board to go home because our zoning bylaw would be out the window reeve allen said that the pres ent designated fire area should be increased to take in all of guclph st and if this were done no frame building could be erected he also expressed opposition to any type of temporary building people who move into bouses located behind stores and then complain about the stores have me puzzled said cr hale who poin ted out thta the building would be used to house garbage and boxes which now have to be left outside if iga arranged to have garb age taken away every day wouldn it solve their problem said cr gray cr mcgiiyvray said that he would prefer the motion not to be put and that he thinks council should pass the zoning by law be fore they put too many restrictions on actions which might be banned in a future by law iga is trying to relieve nein bours of an unsightly condition and i think their request is reas onabte said cr sykes in moving to allow a temporary building he said council should not force them to put a small permanent addition on the side when they migh want to make a larger addition later lawyers hewson and ord were asked to proceed with an exprop riation casement for a storm sew er line through propertied n the main street north district the sewer wil relieve a condition where the town is already threat ened with one damage lawsuit the expropriation bylaw was necessary because one property owner refused an easement with out payment other owna had agreed to it but because there is tome confusion in iurvy lines council decided it would be better to include them all in the bylaw in order to avoid any future dis crepancies
