wards there was a family dinner at the home of mr and mrs char les laws 45 churchill crescent who arranged the surprise among thop present were patsy and reggie laws mr and mrs victor tedder tom and bob from apple wood acres mr and mrs george marsdcn from brampton mr and mrs agar guest of town and mrs laws sister mrs charles chap man santa parade has floats fun candy for kiddies some 1300 bags of candy were distributed by santa claus on saturdiy at georgetown s annual community christmas tree which the lions club his sponsored for the p ist quarter century last ycir the paridc was aug mented with a number of floats and this year response to the ef forts of dick ituldall ind his parade committee was even bet ter the pinde now seems firm ly established as a no 1 attrac tion a pouring rain all morning fail cd to dimpcn enthusiasm md a lucky break in the weather in the early afternoon saved paraders the misery of proceeding in the rain 1 he public turned out in iirgc numbers than ever and the route from windsor dr up the highwav was crowded while downtown georgetown was filled with spectators the parade was headed by parade queen sandra scott who rode with mayor jack armstrong warden stin allen and stan hall m p p the brampton lorne seots pipe band provided music along with the brampton clown band many floats had a nursery rhyme motif including the old woman in the shoe entered by the town little red riding hood union locil 708 smith stone ahec in wonderland the girl guides three little pigs rotary club queen of hearts union local 474 alliance lapei and the snow queen beaver ready mixed co georgetown hunters antlers association had an attractive float depleting a hunting scene beaver lumber co built their float around smokey the bear with se veral beavers drawing attention to the company name the lions club float depicted toyvillc and the north pole an attention getter was an en try from union local 481 pro- vineial paper which showed the bilgcwatcr dairy the pcrfeet re pile i of a i ulk wagon had the horse riding inside and was fol lowed by a hilarious cow and an ostrich while several fancy dress ed milkmen amused the crowd with their antics the parade was completed with tloats from lnn lions club mr 1 ix it jim mulholland a police safety ear clowns and a front end loader from the fire depart ment and the big attraction sinta clans on his handsome reindeer fiont i our silver cups had been do nated for best floats two by car ling breweries and one each by the chamber of commerce and the lions club prizewinners in the various divisions were provincial paper industml girl guides so cial rotary clubs and beaver lumber commercial three homes saddened by sudden deaths the holiday season brought sadness to three local families edward j sanford 48 who with his father operated the j san ford son plumbing and heating firm died suddenly on thursdav at his home at limehouse the same morning george wil ham ashfield 72 died suddenly at his home 5 charles st a re tired member of the toronto fire department he built a new home in the orr subdivision and moved here a few years ago on wednesday thomas uliott mcdowell 50 of erin died sud i denly he was a nephew of wil ham mcdowell 82 maple ave w mr mcdowell s funeral service was conducted in erin on fridav today saturday mr sanford will be buried in greenwood cemetery georgetown difficult job which the chamber of commerce posed for a group of men who were asked to iidee home decorating dis- plavs in georgetown during the holiday season while twelve winners were fin ally chosen members of the judu me committee found dozens of others which were deserving of prizes one unanticipated difficul ty was that every home did not have its lighting displayed on the evening chosen for judging and the committee like others at the holiday season had only limited lime availible for their tour of the town mayor jack armstrong police chief roy haley fire chief wil ham hyde
