to assart in setting up the system at is believed to be unique in canada and inauguration of the service was termed by committee member john henley as a his toric day for georgetown the service will comprise a townowned ambulance manned by unpaid volunteers who will op erate in rimilar fashion to a st john ambulance brigade with out actually joining the st john organisation it is possible that at a later date there may be affiliation with st john councils action followed a punuei meeting last thursday in wrigglesworth school which re sulted in 64 men volunteering their service to aid in ambulance work organization workahas been done by 4man committee rajph e hawes chairman john effiotoohn henley and harrison wood i v a detailed report 07 committee activity was given to council oh monday by mr hawes enough certificated menarev available he stdd to successfully operate the system immediately first aid courses would be made available to other volunteers annual cost of ambulance ser vice is estimated between 1501 and 2000 offset by revenue which would return to the town past figures made available by harold mcclure whose decision to cease ambulance operation creat ed the present situation would reveal that the volunteer service should carry itself without any drain on the public treasury council by its action has aban doned thought of a subsidized private service in which at least tout people had expressed in terest propositions had been submitted by a brampton man two bfiltbn men and a district resident priotr to monday and at this meeting a letter jas jtead frostf norman brown who said would operate an ambulance with a subsidy of 3600 it is possible that an ambulance will be housed in the double gari age on cross t used to house hydro equipment before the new hydro building was opened the committee will investigate this purchase of an ambulance and other details and report to coun cil again next monday several councillors followed the mayor on monday in thanking the organization committee for an excellent job and expressed con fidence that georgetowns ambu lance service would be an asset ser- sarvice to town similar to the fine vice rendered by the fire depart ment 63 victory for local raiders over knights georgetown raiders took over second place in their big seven sr b group last friday with a 6 to 3 win over meaford knights they are now two points behind the league leading elmira polar kings who have 24 pts 2 points behind the raiders with 20 are brampton oakville and meaford all tied for 3rd place the gam last friday was the ft first win in three starts this season against the strong mea ford dub- it was a well deserved win with the raiders out playing them by a good margin the raid- a n h beaten e cl i the league to 1 dave irons tied up the jjame for georgetown at the 36 second mark then bill chard and blake ingles scored two fast goals to give the raiders a 31 lead at 937 bill mcintosh got one back for meaford but the raiders were still hot george orasby scoring at 1330 and ron dixon at 1939 gave the raiders a 52 lead as the period ended the third period was even each club scoring a goal jtay maccallum got one for meaford at 227 but ron dixon came back with his se cond of the evening at 1316 to wrap up the decision it was the raiders first win at home in their last four starts but they
