thousand dollars ahead of the present margin the price itself is a fair one and seems to suit the members whether it could be ad hered to is something we don t care to prophecy if the executive were not careful about their expendit- tures and whether the branch as a whole would favour the rais ing of prices in order to take part in more activities is something that is up to each member and no one can make tlie decision except the inenrtershlpas awhole however we think with a utjtlebit of com- men sense a litue bit of tolerance and ah effort to understand each others views and our branch the biggest and best in b can carry on as at present m to keep everyone happyl we have been asked at times to print a small history of our var ious dominion and provincial of ficers so this week we win try and give you a few highlights of a number of them d l burgess mbe mc legion dominion president- david luther burgess was born in ontario near toronto sixtysev en years ago he went west and en never think to get the application forms just phone your branch secretary and he will see yougetythem this season let us all make ajreal concentrated ef- for to build our membership tell them all the artillery plays golf and is an amateur photographer an increasing problem in all branches in the zone is the terrif ic cost of engaging in their various activities that fall in a sports or in an entertainment category especially is this true in sports where once you become proficient and find teams entered in district tournaments it becomes quite a sizeable expense and naturally one finds in each branch extrem ists on both sides some hotheads who feel sports should be indulged in to the total disregard of any thing else in the branch and other eggheads who feel the branch should exclude all other forms of recreation except that ancient and honorable pastime of elbow bend ing we have no firm conviction on the subject but do feci that mod eration should be used and that in each faction an attempt should be made to see the other side of the fence certainly it gives us a thrill to bear of our branch or zone carrying off honours in some particular event but then again we can- understand the moan of anguish that is wrenched from the custodian of the treasury as he tots up the amount of filthy lucre he is going to have to part with not to mention seeing bis dreams of a surplus for the year evaporate into blue sky looking at the whole picture zonewise we think earl holmes the zone sports officer has done a wonderful job and that in that department he has had the able help of his energetic deputy dude lindsay of acton and each sports chairman including our own hard working frank conriely between the various sports com mittees in the zone a strong struc ture has been set up which has pulled sports up from a low stat ion in zone activity until now they are without a doubt the largest as well as domination factor in the life of the zone and branches we cant help admire and by we that includes almost every legion member the very sound financial basis that the whole setup has been organized on the boys in charge have with their draws etc not only financed their tournam ents but also managed to clean up over 100 in back debts inclr- red by the previous sport group a point that is noteworthy and at present they are we believe in possesion of a bank account of at least 15000 as of the last zone meeting well done fellows and keep up the good work speaking locally we hope that a concret rate will be set in the sales talk then whop out an appli- near future and adhered to in our tatlon form and well wager hell former g hojfemred by dwynten branch this should be done at a general meeting and should on ly be able to be changed on a30- day notice of motion at least in our opinion this would eliminate arguing and unneceisauy recrimi nations however there is one item we think should be taken into con sideration and that is the price of the commodity we sell and realise our operating capital from in all branches with but two exceptions in the province of ontario prices are considerably- higher in moat c by 5c biasing the average
