e mcarthur i hahon weed inspector recreation areas numerous parks are now being established in hatton county of which all but one are being dev eloped and maintained by the lo cal municipal ties they are some times called recreation areas the word recreation being derived from recreate residents and visitors patronixejjuch places pri marily to have a rest or a change or to put it plainly to recreate something with which is seem ingly lost in the ordinary hum- dram of daily living therefore a park is a place where we expect to see something of beauty nothing is more detri mental to the appearance of pur parks than areas heavily infested with unsightly ftoxious weeds ev ery effort should therefore be made by the governing parks au thorities to destroy weeds and keep thier properties neat and ti dy in order to accomplish this task grounds should be planned so that as much of the area as possible can be easily mown mechanically sections where this is impossible should be sprayed with alchemi cal weed killer at the prspcr time of year this practice will elim inate the necessity- of considerable hand cutting of course care must be taken to prevent weeds from ripening seeds however wher ever these undesirable plants per sist excellent results may be ob tained by spraying with 2 4 wherever practical many of our parks have been maintained in excellent condition this summer in regard to weed control unfortunately however there is evidence that others have been somewhat neglected the residents in the local municipali ties are somewhat to blame if their parks do not measure up if you really want the parkland in your area to be one of the fest in halton county dont be afraid to approach the local park auth orities final instalment town of georgetown 1958 taxes i
