14 at night school train as speakers the public speaking course of tered in georgetown this fu and winter as a feature of the evening studies available is now well on its way and each evening some fourteen serious and occasionally nervous students respond in turn to the call the xt speaker please the twelve lessons in better platform presentation is directed by mrs ruth goss an associate instructor with c w wright of tecontojuthor of how to speak in public it is an interesting course and covers a wide range of subjects the instructor opens each session with a talk on some specific phase of speech and then call on each student for his verbal contribution to the evening this will be a brief prepared speech when the speaker has concluded the talk is analyzed the good features are pointed out and suggestions for improvement are made thus the instruction is almost individual in character a high degree of friendliness has been generated and already a steady improvement in skill is ev ident each evening is really an enjoy able experience because the ac cent is on an effort to help most of us would like to feel comfort able before a group the fourteen class members arc moving cannot make a lot of promises for 1959 other than the following would continue to do the best as far as i am able for an economical and careful progress for the town of george town i do not feel that georgetown at this time can afford a town manager at a salary which already has been quoted as anywhere from 12 000 to 20 000 per annum nor do i feel that we must go in the higher bracket 10000 to 12 000 for a competent town engineer believe we must trtyto pay our way and issue deben tures only when it is absolutely necessary and of a major nature i would go along wholeheartedly with any of the long- promised industr es for georgetown and i would oppose any further residential development by delrex developments un til some of these promises bear fruit and the residential indus trial ratio has ben greatly improved trusting i may receive your careful consideration when you mark your ballot seasons greetings to all i remain yours i r ern hyde john zorge says s proaiems facing next yeats counci 1 strict control of all expenditures 2 industrial development 3 advisability of introducing a ward system 4 federal grants for winter work if elected i will apply the same energy ability and mtergnty to solving these problems as i would to my own business vote john zorge december mi 9st
