in the hornby united church on friday december 13th introduced by clebert mcdowell mr elliott delivered what many of those pre sent considered to be the best effort of the many outstanding addresses for which he is noted throughout halton another pleasing feature of the programme presided over by leon ard lister president of the hakon plowmen was a moving picture travelogue of western canada and the united states presented by mr and mrs delbert downs of hornby at the annual meeting which followed the banquet catered by the hornby wa a resoluuoiywas endorsed recommending that j the 1959 plowmens directorate give consideration to the revamping of their prue list and general pro gramme with a view to bringing them more closely in line with pre sent day agriculture the election of the commission mr c v charters of bramp ton well known figure in the prin ting and publishing industries and long associated with the hospital field has been appointed by the provincial government as the sev enth member of the ontario hos pital services commission the new commissioner is now chairman of the board of char tors publishing company ltd ha yfc been itspresident from 1943 to 1958 mr charters is the for mer publisher of brampton s wlc klj newspaper the conservator and was managing director of the canadian weekl newspaper as social ion from 1935 to 1946 for 20 cars mr charter wa- a member of the board of tht peel memorial hospital and was the board s president in 195556 he also has been a number st the ontario hospital association board of directors from 1951 and was president december 400 of canada s farm forums met to discuss the third national topic the cost of productoin 4352 mem bers attended the meetings 84 per cent of the forum r 341 agreed that the would be prepared to accept an average col of production as set b some nat tonal bodj instead of their own cot of production onl 27 groups or 7 per cent felt that the stand ard cost would be unfair to the small producer the 341 forums who would ac cept a standard cost of production had differing ideas on the bod who should establish this cost 43 forums or 34 perccnl would like to sec farm organizations es tabhsh the figure 78 forums or 29 per cent feel that a board of arbitration could do a better job for both the farmer and the con sumtr 52 groups of 13 per cent want to see the government farm organizations and coops represen ted on the board which decides on a suitable cost of production fin all 37 forums or about 9 per cent favour government and farm org anizations working together if such a cost of production is to be set for all farmers a few groups expressed feeling that no fixed cost of production should be established they sug gestcri- instead that low floor pri ces be 20 19s8 the women s service committee of north halton cancer unit is very grateful to the town council of milton for giving us the use of this room for the making and stor ing of dressings since the room was freshly decorated it has been a pleasant convenient place to work our most urgent need at the momejjt is more cupboard space for the storing of dressings during the year 14 sessions for the- makings of dressings were held with an average attendance of 16 volunteers 2450 dressings of var ious sizes and 1850 dressings sup plied to patients in one instance nome service was temporarily supplied until oth er arrangements could be made by the family or through a service clubr in october two members of the service committee attended the annual conference in toronto for two days and three more mem bers attended sessions for one day attending this conference was a privilege and an education the highlight being the tour of the princess margaret hospital about 300 delegates were present representing every cancer unit in ontario it is hoped that next year many of our members will be able to attend the conference at this time we would like to extend to the many volunteer wor iters from the women s institutes iode chapters business women s club mr and mrs club as well as individual volunteers from the dcorgetown acton and milton ar las our sincere thanks for their faithful attendance at work meet mgf i would like particularly to mention conveners mrs f w mc ma ur mrs c g wilson and mrs c b knight milton mrs rat west acton and mr lrntst al cott georgetown for all they have done toward the success of this verj worthwhile project and with out whose interest and assistance the present organization would not have been posible two groups of volunteers have been formed one group under the convener ship of mrs h w mcmasler and mrs thompson meets on the first monday of the month and another group convened by mrs wilson and mrs knight meets on the 3rd monday we have also had the cooperation of the halton county health unit and we are jnosl grateful for their assistance there is genuine enthusiasm among the volunteers and if the need for dressings and other ser ices continues to grow the com mittee is well organized to take care of any demand respectfully submitted kathleen m thompson chairman women s service committee tr 79771 no injuries in two accidents a 1951 pontiac coach driven by mrs thomas gadd 3 durham st suffered approximately 150 dam age when it struck a tree at the corner of queen and mcnab streets on monday december 32nd mrs gadd was driving south on queen and attempting to make a left turn onto mcnab when the car skidded on the hard packed surface into the tree mrs gadd escaped injury in the smash which occurred at about 1405 pjn and was invest gated by cpl jim bilsborrow on saturday at 140 am a direct winters transport tractor trailer was to collision with a car driven by douglas mitchell of 5 arietta sl at the intersection of no 7 high way and the eighth line resulting in and estimated total damage of 650 the transport was driven by jef fery dlckison 6 balsam dr guelph i and neither driver was injured most local residents had a
