pointed out that the word em manuel or god with us gives as the true meaning of christmas jesus lived a human life sharing tine joys and sorrows the difficul ties and hardships that befall all human beings real human haip- piness begins when we realizethe part that jseus can play in our lives immediately after the church service on sunday afternoon dec 21st the residents- were visited by a group of faithful old friends in the persons of twenty five bands- men- of the oakville citizens band and their talented bandmaster frank locksley the program pre- tied was nrimaruya concert of christinas music the opening march with the title christmas parade contained a number of tunes loved by children it followed by a medley of english scottish welsh and irish melod ies bearing the title memories from britain in this medley sev eral very fine solo parts were pla yed by a number of bandsmen two groups of christmas carols played by the hand with the audi ence shiging in unison were enjoy ed the sprightly selection- the teddy bears picnic and the very appropriate one bless this house were most acceptable before the ast selection the glad new year march closed the concert band master locksley extended greet ings from the bandsmen and from the town council and citizens of oakvile all the band concerts played in the year 1958 have been so much enjoyed that the residents jre anticipating even under the expert leadership of mr tony vanzutven and was ac companied at the piano by miss ella mcdennot the program was entirely christmas music and the- songs presented were for the most part entirely new to the audience they were sung in the english dutch and latin languages and proved the versatility of the choir members many of whom are of dutch birth jntbe course of this lovely program a soprano solo was sung by jeannet girordoni a duet for tenor and bass voices by jens hagg and harry van ziitveh and a trio selection for alto tenor and bass voices by mary vanzutven jens hagg and harry vanzutven the choir had been welcomed to the manor by mrs stan allen and bhey were thanked by muriel thompson the speech of thanks was acknowledged very graciously by the vice president of the choir mrs a rivier it is hoped that this talented choir will soon come again and present another concert in several languages for the resi dents a very appropriate prologue to he annual christmas party around he christmas tree was presented in the form of a christmas concert by the choir of the bronte united church on tuesday evening dec 23rd ten ladies and gentlemen were- in the choir and they were very capably led by their leader mr ross brock who also played the piano accompaniments the program was opened with prayer by mr william milligan who an old friend of the residents thro inspresence at the gideon services held at the manor on the fifth sunday of the month whenever such occur the musical program that followed was comprised of familiar carols sung in unison by the visitors and the residents and a number of christinas songs and carols sung by the choir alone among the latter were the lovely songs a star was his cradle the polish lullaby to jesus and o holy night in che lastnamed of which mr milligan sang a solo part the- christmas story from chaptef st l ukes gospei was read by mrs wm sherwin wife of the minister of bronte uni ted church after the christmas story two more lovely songs were presented by the choir these were gesu bambino in which mr aub rey packard sang a soloppart and the negro spiritual 1 wonder as 1 wander with mr milligan tak ing a solo part by reminding the audience of the true meaning of christmas the bronte choir fur nished a very fine prologue to the gay ana happy christmas party that followed following the precedent estab lished last year of having the jgmas party on the evening prior to the christmas eve the party was held on tuesday evening dec 23 the party was held in the dining room where a very prouykchristanas tree had beiin set upt as soon as the festivities were about to begin mrs allen announced that santa glaus as unable to be present but that he had sent mrs santa claus in stead as a salute to mrs san ta everyone joined in singing jingle bells at which time jmrs santa who bore a remarkable sim- arity to mrs hazel smith the chef and whose voice was the du plicate of mrs smiths voice en tered the room assisted by a number of staff members and res idents mrs santa then proceeded to supervise che handing out of the many gifts under and around tjhe tree everyone was remembered and everyone agreed that mrs santa has been most generous mrs santa found a gift for mr and mrs allen from the residents and it proved to be a sectional relish tray in crystal and silver the manor received very many gifts and donations also through the kindness and generosity of the sara martin chapter of the ioie in milton two very practical gifts were received a treadle sewing machine and a record player du ring the latter part of the evening several longplaying records d led by mr ron harris were play on the new recordplayer two lifts were dispayed on ttfie piano iurinb the christmas party and ensuing days they wcrte a beau li ful aaalca presented by the girls junior auxiliary of grace anglican church milton when they gave a program at themanor on dec isth and a very cleverly made snowman fashioned of stiffened thread and it presented by the december group of st christophers wom ens church year of burlington at the close of this very enjoyable party mr allen thanked every- onewho had contributed
