r tim georgetown hutald wednesday fe 18th 1988 ipaqfe 2 high tales published by the students of georgetown high school you 7 no 6 wednesday february 18th 1050 georgetown ont editorial a point system june lyon for as long as i can remember at every ghs commencement each student who has contributed to the school by actively taking part in three or more clubs ot activit ieis3rxrqugh6ut heseason has been presented witfian honour crest by clubs or activities 1 mean the choir bazaar library club cadets spoils and the num erous others here at georgetown high now the crests are suppo- sed to be changed to honour let ters the honor ores as most of you know is a navy blue and red crest which can he sewn on jackets or blazers the honour letters are a capital g standing for george town to gain this one must earn either 50 or 100 points 50 being for a smaller letter and 100 for a larger letter an example of how many points one activity counts is the choir being a member of the choir gains only 2 to 5 points at the most this shows how long it will take some to obtain at least 50 points in my opinion this is unfair be cause it is possible that several students will get fewer points than they deserve others more why not have honour letters for those who took part in sports football and hockey teams track and field feet and others i feel these stud ents should have something dif ferent but i think that honour crests should not die out they should live an as long as the activ ities for which they are earned exist and i think that will be a long time ps why not leave the answer to the students themselves have each student council representat ives take a vote in his or her class mr walker betty awry among the many new teachers who have joined the staff this year is mr walker he served as a spare teacher last year mr walker was for many years a toronto magazine editor he has travelled extensively and be sides europe he has been in all the provinces of canada and for ty of the american states after attending albert college in belleville ontario his family moved to new york where he en tered drew university and got his degree with honours m history he also went to the university of toronto for post graduate work and last summer to the college of education when his father retired he be came the new editor of walker s publishing co which publishes home building in canada and other building magazine in 1951 he became seriously- ill and be- ause of this retired from busin lets get with it la sloan thhno editor it is hoped that this years edi tion of the challenge will come out some time in may hoever very little interest in the yearbook has been shown on the part of the students for whom it is publish ed no reporters were present at the last meeting and onl about 12 per cent of the student body has bought a subscription to the year book we hope vou understand that v e ist present the publishing cos n full before the yearbook can be printed most of the mon ey will come from advertising but a large percen age must be obtain ed from the circulation the number of car books sold is however important in another waj it indicates how man people want a earbook in the school ii the teaching staff the student council who are sponsoring this year s edition and the year book executive decide that the number of people interested in a year book is insufficient this could be the challenges last ear for publica tion the staff of the vear book earn estlj hopes that each one of you will actively support this years project 2nd junior hockey game joh
