cup complaint by a ratepayer of fro zen ice and dirt blocking his driveway led to a pltja by cr fred harrison at mondays council mee ting for cooperation from residents to do their part in aid ing road work during the difficult winter months harold rossiter 74 prince char les drive was the complaintant the town grader he said in clearing ice from the road had piled it up along the ditch cr harrison pointed out that this has been one of the worst winters on record and that it had taxed thc road committee to capacity to find a solution for all the problems thc town foreman and road chairman have been bugged to death by complaining ratepayers he said they will have to real ize that we are working under a budget and that we have the whole town to deal with certainly it has been incon venient for thc odd individual but house owners must help too he continued if we hire men to chop out driveways our road bud get will go haywire there has been some criticism that delrex is not being looked after mr harrison said but to thc contrary more time and mon ey has been spent in that area this year than in the whole town in past years that s quite a speech but it doesn 1 solve my problem com mented mr rossiter i spend half my summer hosing the road to keep dust down do you want me to work for the town in the winter too you pay 200odd dollars tax es replied cr harrison we cant give you everything you want unless you want a 99 mill rate too road chairman gray said mr rossiter had his sympathy but the town cant accept the problem of blocked driveways and each ratepayer will have to deal with these himself when the ice is graded from the centre there is no place to put it except on the roadsides am i the only one bothering you asked mr rossiter no and you have the right to bother me but unfortunately i can t do anything about it was deputy reeve grays reply another ratepayer stewart stockfish 49 norton cresc sug gested that side street entrances to main arteries which have had ice removed be graded in a ramp fashion to avoid steep drops ending thc discussion mayor armstrong remarked that he has travelled in many ontario towns this year and has yet to find any town that has maintained winter roads in as good condition as georgetown asking permission to start a driving school in town mr gor don of toronto was to d that there no local bv lav governing such chools and that council has no ju isdiction over this cr harrison said there should be sme sort of municipal control and the mayor suggested that the police committee check to see what authority a town may have to regulate such schools asking if the police committee had any report following his com plaint recently about cars block ing roadways at fires w o brown- ndge was told by police chair man mrs annecurrie thai she checked and the police feel they are doing everything pos- ible in this respect georgetown oantam austaks downed milton and orangeville handily blanking both teams io wm
