legions and auxiliary scholarships in this command to our knowl edge there have been very few applicants only one fpom town and one from bronte that we can tecall in the past few years it is our firm conviction that there arc numbers of able students who are in that category where help could he the difference between going to university and not so with the permission of the editor well give a few facts regarding these scholarships each branch secre tary should have the forms by now and more are readily avail able at command the writer has two set himself which hell ue lad to g nit and we stress the whole l is confidential 1 scholarships dominion com mand offers two valued at 400 each and ontario command of fers a large number of additional ones at 400 each to be awarded to secondary schodl graduates en tering university in the autumn of 1959 universities scholarships are tenable in any course leading to a degree at any university or college in ontario application applications should be made in duplicate on the pro per form and complctd and mail ed before midnight june 30 1959 to p biggs provincial secretary ontarid command 218 richmond st w extra forms may be ob tained from high school prin cipals branch secretaries or the provincial secretary ontario com mand selection the scholarships to be awarded in 1959 will be awar ded secondary school graduates en tering university selection is based on matriculation exam results and general suitability the examination results considered will be the average of those papers re quired fortntrance to a university course without condition provided that 8 papers are written and that final candidates must obtain an average of second class honours with no conditions to be eligible eligibility scholarships will be awarded only to persons who arc eligible for menrbership in the leg ion exservice personnel or to children of deceased veterans or to children of parents either of whom are eligible for membership in the legion awards announcement of awards will be made by ontario command canadian legion on or before september 30 1959 each scholarship will be awarded for a year only payment of awards will to be made thro the bursar of the institution attended and may we add we hope that the branch and indeed the auxil iary fully realize just what a won derful work they have been doing with those yearly donations the neces sity of protection against fire and in conclusion demonstrated a fire detection unit suitable for use in the home those taking part were thanked by laverne thompson and meet ing closed with
