it was foggy and rainy there so we continued to buffalo had dinner saw a show and returned early in the evening the next morning i went thro the same routine as before only tins time for real the students all over eighteen and from the sur rounding districts of brantford wclland hamilton burlington and toronto talked with one another and i discovered a girl there wh was at bark lake with me down to the pool for screening senior red cross swimming is required each person was given a number and one by one we went through the elementary back side breast the front and back crawl standing shallow racing and dwrk dives if a person was given more than 2 fs they were not considered skilled enough to take the course about eight were eliminated after dinner in the lecture room mr ted somerville ex director of water safety in ontario and mac momartin gave each of us a kit with water safety books pamphlets cards folders etc for reference at any time we were given a lecture on the principles of teaching beginner and junior swimmers and later in the pool un der the direction of our professors played ring around the rosy and other beginner games which were great fun i really laughed at some of the beys close to twen ty having more fun than if the had been five we were given the night off because of the hockey game in toronto which the boys wanted to watch wednesday morning at 9am we were back in the same room for the same routine only the talk was on diving stroke and lesson progressions at the beginning of the pool session mr sommerville lined us up along the side for a demonstration of the stride jump i was second from the shallow end and figured we would work from the deep he asked the boy beside me to start but the young man didn t know how and declined he yelled at me to do the entry i was standing just about where the pool began to deepen and in i went i landed so hard on bottom that my teeth shook i yelled as if i had been shot i was then sent to the deep end to repeat it be fore we left for supper there were some speed relays and the kids ha i a lot of fun vtq were also given three blank lesson plans to fill in for the next days teaching as signments as there were no hockey games a night session was held in artifi cial respiration the class was di vided into two groups and we co vered both the schaeffer and the itolger neilson change chisholm then a colonel com in inded the unit ken murray the new rsm en listed in april 1941 with the lome scots militia and went active and proceeded overseas in 1942 where he transferred to the 48th high landers he served with the latter in france and came home as a company sergeant major he has been an active nco with the georgetown company since 1948 the murrays have five chil dren lois 9 susan
