of barber shop quartette singing in america presented a tuneful and interesting vocal pro gram at the manor on monday ev emng may 11th the eleven visi tors included their president mr doug brunton ents enjoyed a social half hour to gether when a cold beverage and cookies were served the burlington chapter of the society is one of 600 chapters in the usa and canada founded in tulsa oklahoma 21 years ago the society now boasts chapters from the atlantic to the pacific and from alaska to ilawau there arc some 26000 members of whom 1 000 reside in canada about fifty young b6ys and girls ranging from ten to fifteen years and representing ohapel street and harrison public schools in georgetown presented an en joyabe and appealing program for the residents on wednesday evening may 13th the boys and irls were accompanied by their principals mr val stem of chapel street schol and mr harold hen r of harrison school mr henry performed the duties of chairman in a viry pleasant fashion the tho i j numbers while mr harrison ae compin id the soloists the fir t number on thc program winch wa sung by the chapel street choir consisted of three folk songs in the plaza down in ha wan and the gypsy song the second and third numbers were two appealing solos the moon sung bv david farnell of wrig glesworth school another of the georgetown public schools the next choral selection was sung sermon on the sub ject of pentecost pentecost one of the great festivals or the chris tian church mr powell said celc brates the coming of the holy spi rit as described by luke in the acts of the apostles pentecost means spirit which in turn means breath when christ breathed his power upon his dis ciples the holy spirit came to the christian church this coming of the hol spirit came today to drowning can be prevented he gave do and don ts in swimming and also more people today arc en joy ing motor boats which is a wonderful sport when care is used artificial respiration lessons are
