the georgetown herald wtdimday 5ptmbv 16th 15 pacfc 8 bruce county site chosen for nuclear power station the great yellow jnoon jiung in i the blue mountain sky as i recal led how the electrically lit drum seemed to hang on the blue velvet backdrop affected by glen miller band all 1 needed to completel bewitch me was the well known miller all time favorite moonlight cocktails but the exhtlerating mountain air that fluttered the cur tains in my cabin at jasper park lodge one night late in july was all the intoxication i net led ailtr m trip from vancouver with the thrill of watching from my train window the fraser river dash madh through a cavernous alley to the sea 1 didn t think there could be anything to top this beauty 1 was mistaken 1 hadn t yet seen japer park the lodge itself is in a jewel like setting of greensward gay flowering annuals and a lake as emerald green as the bow on pad dy s pig this reflects on a calm clear day the army of fir trees that march up to the snowcapped peaks of the mountains which ci- cle the lodge tourists work hard at seeing all there is to see and i was no ex reption i even worked hard at relaxing on the wide stone terrace overlooking the turquoise blue swimming pool its difficult to make oneself lie out on a white wrought iron suncot while imagin ing what it must feel like to be wi thin a hundred odd feet of the famous angel glacier exciting trip i took a jaunt to mai igne canyon i was assured that on his route there were no twiit roads or quick drops to take my breath away now i cant even aze from the top of a step ladder let alone down a rocky cavern 6f 184 feet so when we had walked down a sunny mountain path and tame to a little wooden bridge i stepped aboard hesitantly when i heard water pounding beneath m fett at what seemed at least a mile away i remembered a sign on the pathwav resquc rope at the cha let 1 wanted lo get down on my hands and knees and creep to the safety of the rocky path as 1 had owe done at capilano canyon in vancouver soon i gathered cour age from mv fellow tourists and peeked over the railing of the pine bridge the white foam of the mountain brook dashed against its granite prison and there to watch in all its futility yvas a single nldftffwer clinging w th brave abandon in a tiny crevice in the rock jasper park fairly breathes rom a net it ib not unusual to see darby and joan tpes walking hand in hand alone the path vay lhat surrounds lac beauvert the lodge itself is staffed by approxi mately six hundred coeds from universities right across canada and i am sure they too appreciate the spectacular moonlight nights but perhaps the most romantic thing i saw during my threpdays a 2 jul icre silt foi cunayui s hi 1 laae scale nuclear power tta hon has been angel glacier i ui6 there is only one way to satisfy of bear and deer hunting with j 1 nmar tho vontip french this kind of curiosity i found and that is to sign up for every darned tour outlined in the highly colour cul brochure at the transportation desk of the lodge i found too to my delight that the old breathless thrill of a time in my life when a ride on a roller coaster met my teenage longing for exoitement was not dead by any means with a dare devil univcr sity student studying to be a doc tor at the wheel of the glass domed sightseeing bus the dehc ious shudders at dangerous curves were relived tall good looking carl who handled the bus on the mountain road as though it were a toy certainly knew the psychology of making his passengers believe the were getting their monc s worth if the bus went berserk on one of the hairpin turns it was comforting to know that dr carl would be able to practice some of his hard won knowledge to get in raining for thi more camera was the young french ca nadian who chipped a piece of the glacier from the angel s wing on mount yedith cavell it is fof my wife who is mv angel she did not make this trip and i take this home to her for luck well some people collect amulets of wood and stone but this young man cuddled in a red bandana a piece of the angel glacier for his beloved that is what jasper does to really sane people isn t it
