georgetowns newerresidents might be confused about how peal government operates in ontario ri georgetown a 9member council is elected to conduct the town s business sep arate elections are held for mayor reeve deputy reeve and six councillors the mayor is the head of dvic govern ment he acts as presiding officer at coun cil meetingss when any formal motion is placed on the table the mayor calls for a vote after discussion on the subject on hand he does not himialf have a vote except on occasions when any councillor might eak for a recorded vote if such is asked the town clerk whocacts as secretary at a council meeting records the vote ofeach council member including the mayor and this bcomes a permanent voting record of that particular question the reeve and deputy are fullfledged members of the town council sitting at the head of the table on either side of the may or irt addition to these duties they have in extra task as members of the county council georgetown is part of
