given eomeof the past history of the local hospital its develop ment from a desire in the minds of a few persons to ensure ade quate health facilities for the community to the fund raising ttagesjand the many meetings both locally and with govern ment to gain necessary approval for the actual construction of the building since may of 1960 it is safe to say that every member of the community hurj been keenly aware of the con traction itself i would like to give some thought to the pre sent and future of the institu bon at the moment the buit ding itself is finally a reality the roads which give egress re now in place and all the outward trappings of a hospital exist indeed to any who have peeked in a window and their number is legionary it would ippear that all fib many items that go to make a hospital in the phjsical sense axe also in their places this too b a cor rect assumption all the equip ment has been selected and purchased all the items of sup ply are also either in the bull ding or on the way to it how ever the main functions of the hospital that is the care of the sick and injured leader ship to and cooperation with all groups and individuals who are dedicated to the preventative aspects of community health research with ell other health facilities to enlarge the tout knowledge of health and wel fare riiay not be realized until the most important of all re quirements have been met 1 refer of course to the form ing into a team of the staff which will actually be the bos- pital as time goes on this hospital team is made up of many parts and includes the physicians g surgeons who will cave the privileges and respon tibilities for utilizing the hospi tal facilities professional nurs ing personnel who will inter pret and carry out the orders of the medical staff technically qualified persons who will carry out diagnostic and treatment services skilled persons who will ensure that the hospital is a safe place in which to be ill trained pereons who will pre pare and serve the food so vital to proper recovery wash the linens scrub the floors and maintain the records of all that which is done whether to in crease the value of medical treatment or to conserve and use wisely the money which all tbees things must cost without the people to do all these functions there exists only a shell of a building con tain ing costly and quite useless and district mem orlai hospital h c cilhooly administrator with a good deal or prtotthat i may uy that we have not only good and adequate equip ment and facilities in our hos pital but also the basic ingred lent for a moat worthy hospital staff this b even more worthy of note in view of the fact that the bulk of all the staff will be persons who know and are known m georgetown and dis trict of course the very as ture of some of the positions require previous hospital cxper ienca as time itself obviates any possibility for training total staff as an initial venture however every position pos sible including a number of department head classifications has been filled with a local person tho others regardless f where they came to are here because they wish beome local residents and will undoubtedly add much to the community because the staff nil be lar gely new to the hospital field nd a time of training and im ttsl growth in capability will a required 1 would ask that joo readers who are the own rs of the hospital and there- forty ocx employers grant h o gilhool when the first patient is ad mltted on 27th june 1961 a new local industry will have come into being an industry whose only product is service to all members of the commun ity but a product which is most vital and a service in which you have already had a part through physical effort or kind generosity i trust that you will not consider the job done now or in the future the need for constant improvement in facil ities or services will go on thro all the years which may follow the hospital can only be the institution the community wish es it to be it will need the strength many of you can give through jour membersh p in the association selecting and electing the most qualified per sons available to form the fu ture board of directors so vital to interpret the commun ity needs and desires and for rmilate the policies neeessarj to meet the constant chang ing needs as they become known i have been moat gratified with the cooperation and un demanding of the present group of directors the wisdom and thoughtfulness they have shown at many lengthy meet ings must be recognised as must the faithful attendance of every one of them being a member of a hospital board of direc tors is a difficult task indeed tat it must be one of the most rewarding of all volunteer en tcrprtses witout the dellbera uons am decisions of the board of irectotb no policies could be formulated and therefore there could be no framework within which the management function could be performed the present status of the b
