henry viii the theatre itself is siutat ed tin a hill overlooking the river avon very picturesque and far from the usual thing with its fluted edge rodf as we entered the theatre we were very much impressed by the size and dignity qf the foyer and by the court esy shown to us by the at lendants when we took our seau we took the oppor tumty before the play began to view the unusual stage which not like the ordinary picture frame stage pro trudes out from the wall into the audience so that the seals arranged in a semi circle almost completely sur round it when the play be- gao props that were an ab solute necessity were brou ght in and taken away cry quickly by the less important actors scarcely noticed by theaudicnce the rest of the scencrj wai left entirely to the imagination of the audience the actors and actresses themselves appeared in all their finery looking vcrv magnificent thcj held our attention for the whole two hours with their superb ac- ing putting all that they pas sensed into lteir parts they entered upon the scene by various entrances as well as the aisles in the audience the costumes throughout the play were beautiful and the jeweln looked very true to life the finale i think held everyone s breath for the entire cast was dressed in yellow and their jewels were sparkling in the bright lights shining down on them in their splendour all in all stratford to
