june 16 will mark five years since hospital opened its doors we think this coliurih might wry well be headed the yean that the locusts have eaten nr something to that effect as it chiefly consists of rcminls cences of the formative years of gdmh yes its almost five years since our hospl tal opened and considerably less than ten since active plans to erect it were first laid there was a local touch there with our first chief of staff dr j h chamberlain and dr dytn ond having served overseas to gether in the medical corps during world war it present for the opening cermonies also were municipal dignitaries the ministerial association and reo- resentatlves of provincial and federal and county governments as well ai many former resid ents who returned to see the opening hospital news by lm clark the anniversary actually jitxt week as we recall it was just five years ago saturday june 18th 1961 when the rib bon cutting ceremony occurred with health minister matthew dymond officially opening its interesting to note that pieces of equipment added through the generosity of indiv iduals organizations and indus try it is hoped that the iyext live years will see continual improvement in all phases of our hospital so that all pat ients can be assured of continu ing fine care our recollecttbns are of extremely warm day with the l rrows s n h hie chers under a blazing sun sitting patiently under a bla ing sun and a rather lengthy program we might add after the official opening ccremon ies tours of the hospital were conducted by the w a and em ployees of the hospital since then of cdlirse weve seen the hospital evolve into a smoothly functioning plant with a hardworking dedicated staff trying to provide the fin est in patient care to those con fined to it we have seen a large number of changes both in the staff and in the equip ment and have seen many new history of the early yean of planning and building a his tory that will become increasing valuable in the years to come our second lady who deserv es special mention is mrs alex taylor who did such great work in fund raising jennie taylor and her various groups of helpers at one stage were the principal fund raisers for the hobpital mrs taylor also was a very active and enthusias tic member of the board of dlr ectors for many years and the board lost a valuable member when she decided to retire couple of years ago and in conclusion we should like to pay tribute to two ladies who did so much in the forma uve years of the hospital in the area of planning fund rais- id indeed doin a job they thought would help prov ide a little incentive or some financial help to the hospital we realize that it is very diffi cult to pick specific persons m this way because one could go on for a page and name geor getown citizens who played a big part in fund raising plan rung etc however our mind does turn back to the late mrs muriel adams who played such a vital part in the early planning sta ges as well as constantly giving encouragement to the various committees etc she also did a wonderful job in making up a we think anyone might take a worthwile few minutes to in spect the gardens and lawns and shrubs at the hospltaj these days it is indeed a sight worth seelngrwiththewholeplace of bloom bridge club guests from acton brampton erin and milton duplicate bri dge clubs joined members of the
