businesswomen bringing famous portraits from past here ontario famous historical fa anion pageant portraits from the past will be presented in knox church hall georgetown on monday june 26th the show will be under the iponsorsbip of the business professional women aclub and proceeds will go toward finan cing their centennial project the presentation in the lorm of a fashion show consists of 39 women s costumes dating from the visits of early explorers to the early 1900s replicas of the dresses worn by such famous women as mad ame champlain mrs john graves simcoo and laura sec- ord are included in the show members of various local wo men s organizations will model the costumes the show is tounng tho pro vince under the auspices of the ontario centennial planning branch a division of the ontar io department of tourism and information it has already visited many major communit les in the province and has helped raise thousands of dol lars for local centennial celeb rations in addition to tho contnbu tion it has made to centennial fund raising it has helped sti znulate interest in preparing for the 100th birthday of confed eration costumes in portraits from the past were designed after extensive research in old books magazines and historical docu ments but are made of modem fabrics using the modern dress making techniques this has enabled the costumes to stand up to repeated use and display even though some of the originals from which they were taken such as queen victorias wedding dress were intended to be worn only once some of the designs were de signed for wear on formal occa sums while others are modelled after the daily garb worn by pioneer women and indian mai dens the show includes an example of the paris styles worn by hel- ene de champlain the child bride of the famous french ex plorer a victorian nding gar ment costumes illustrating the dress of the wives of the prov incial premiers at confederation time and many others in the commentary some in teresting and little known his torical facts about canada s ear ly women are contained these facts help bring authenticity to the glamour and color of the costumes and make portraits from the there s a broad range of act lvities each day to interest the children nature hikes games physical fitness and swimming are balanced by camp crafts and an hour s rest period after lunch to give everyone a brea ther outdoor cooking ways tun as are the special ac tivity fridays when a theme as indian day is chosen with tho programme planned accor dingly parents are most wel come to visit the camp director this year is mrs annette milne mrs milne graduated in home ecori omics and trained as a dietician at otago university new zea land she also was junior ten nis champion in wellington n z mrs milne who has a large family and has worked a lot with children took a depart ment of educauon course in crafts this past winter and is well prepared for her role as day camp director assisting mrs milne will be mrs terry colter who has had 3 years experience at day camp as well as assisting with cubs and mrs dohna bobbins who in june will complete a course given by the depart ment of education in camp dir ecting counsellors are a vital part of the day camp programme the georgetown y trains and chooses its leaders with caro parents may be assur ed of the safety and wellbeing of their children all prospect ive counsellors attended train ing sessions in brampton during easter week they were examin ed and graded at the end of their course the moat suitable ones wen selected to undergo another day of on the bite rain ing at terra cotta in juno day camp leaders with three years experience arc susan landry and jacqueline dowcll two years experience cindy cooper susai price and tom my dean bronze medalist rick chaplin will be waterfront counsellor and new junior lea ders are ron hill and becky cooper all the senior leaders have given volunteer service in gym this past year the experience of leadership at day camp with its chain of responsibility from junior to senior to direct or uill he an ansct later in life as students adjust to the adult working world so while day
