inlaw roger cards of thanks the mail bag gineersalary too high ays opposing councillor 10 shelley street november 7th 1967 sir is a rare occasion indeed n i find it necessary to te to you and the taxpayers ugh ytrnr newspaper to plain of an unjust move e by municipal council of eh i am a member t the regular council meet held monday night eight hers of council voted to ge the services of a towm neer at the annual salary of including car allow y which is an increase of t 55 000 over what we paying our former engin ow i know nothing about bian other than that he is present working for a town near north bay and has ved satisfactory as a rural engineer with some urban ience and as a matter of this is about all any mem of council knows so cert to all intents and purpos he is somewhat of an un vm quantity and in my cment he should start his lbyment with georgetown a lessor salary until such that he has proved to ncil that he is indeed vorth kind of money checking the salaries paid engineers all through this other counties around ge- tbwn and the salaries paid engineers with equivalent igons with the department highways i have learned t this salary is a good deal her and i consider it moat ir to expect our taxpayer accept this additional cost cularly when all members council have stated on many lons that they will always f6 for full value for every dbllar spent and that thry mot spend money unwisely might be of further interest mr editor to know that we have many engineers living m georgetown at the moment and some of them have indicat j cri to melhat this 14 200 salary s too high for a municipality of this size and had they known that this would be the range for this position they would havr most certainly applied for the job this would appear to me mr editor that council is getting a little lackadaisical in its spen ding of our tax dollar maybe this is because of the two year term or maybe it s because the taxpayers are getting complac ent with their elected rcprcs entattves neither of which is a desirable situation my purpose in writing this letter to you mr editor is to determine whether or not this is the case or arc all the taxpay ers making so much money that i few thousand dollars of their taxes spent unwisely here and there is of no concern to them i sincerely hope that you and members of council will hear from the taxpayers in this mat ter in the very near future councillor jim young two new recruits boost north halton 0pp to 26 two new constables joined the north halton opp detachment this week bringing the force to 2c men the
