just one high card joint in his hand both of fforths doubles were for take lit the first time south did ot have to bid since east kept file bidding open but the sc- nd he had to speak up i declarer had to win the op- filing lead in dummy his plan was simple get the trump out o he could get to the heart ace pnd lead the queen east won nd led a club which dummy juflcd a low heart was led to souths hand and now the jnoment of truth had arrived should declarer take the spade finesse or the diamond finesse h the question can best be an gered by looking at different questions which finesse is the best assuming either one will work and which one docs the jcast harm if it fails lets look t diamonds first if the finesse works declarer will have to get to his hand to repeat the fin- iesse he could still lose two spades a club and a trump if kj diamond finesse fails he ght set up an extra trick if jlhc suit is evenly divided or jk the ten falls if the spade finesse works and east has the aco then de clarer can ruff spades to take the diamond finesse if the fin- jesse fails then declarer can not up two spade tricks and dis- jcard two of his diamonds a successful diamond finesse jwill not let declarer try the spade finesse but a successful t spade will still let declarer try the diamond finesse hence de clarer tried the spade and worked out as predicted all the north trafalgar euchre
