doctor came anyway mr editor not all of e townsfolk know that in times oat emergency if they will call the halton medical health unit in town there is a staff there that can and will help with em ergencies 1 know they helped me in desperation for help suddenly recalled the many times as georgetowns wei come hostess i had given the newcomer the phone number and address of our local health nurse this wtq chiefly far health problems dor their chfl- dren i phoned the health mtnei and from that time on i was not alone three letters on my file will attest to the fact of my gratitude to georgetowns fmedical health unit plus the help from one of georgetowns newer doctors katharine qordaro airport even at this stage it is hardly likely that our aero nautical engineer bar helmut scheidhoven would associate himself with an unsafe airfield risking his reputation dr brown made his condud ing assessment of this airport by stating it is noisy and dangerous after a careful analysis he would have been more correct by describing himself as such dr brown de clined to accept my challenge to debate the airport issue with me in march by ignoring r i suppose its better to go down in disgrace rather than defeat for a time it seemed the battle of the air was over it has tur ned out to be an uneasy truce if you are setting out to destroy us be prepared for a dogfight my diary js report on the front page i of the august 28th herald of aree serious automobile acci dents omits some important de tails why did these cars collide were they racing were the drivers drunk or were they kids overcome with the power of a machine the working of jtybich they neither understand nor are able to control what were the accident vic tims doing at or near the plaza it midnight and what has the raising of the speed limit from 30 to 40 miles to do with the collisions if the herald continues to confine itself to reporting that two or more cars met and suf fered a certain amount of dam age this bit of news is not worth printing at all i think that the almost pathological fear to implicate people only because they are somebodys neighbour has to be overcome to make a story like the fore going newsworthy we have a sample of this in another part of last weeks is sue where the herald runs a story on mr john q pujbffc this guy in complicity with his wife mrs public throws empty cigarette boxes out of his car window naughty fellow that he is turned to health unit in medical emergency 11 ewing street dear sir i cannot let this opportunity pass without saying a very hearty thank you for your tim ely editorial august 28th re the doctors it was time that someone had the courage to bring this out in the open and i can only add amen safety main concern says airport owner to critic r r 3 georgetown dear sir in a recent issue of the geo rgetown herald a letter sub mitted to the esquesing coun cil and written by dr e w brown has prompted me to re- fute his statements the gentle man quotes the following seasoned pilots regard the rosslake airfield as dangerous and goes on to describe it as noisy and devaluating to his property it is no secret that this man and a resident of the 4th line ot this township have ambitions to destroy this airport in a pers onal conversation this r mark was made i have em ployed one of the best lawyers in toronto to destroy your air port perhaps one or two others share their sentiments i have admiration for a person who will come forward and present an intelligent and constructive as one who was in desperate criticism for any enterprise need of help in the early part but wt a person resorts to of this year i can vouch for the i the s of slander in obtaining truth of your statements the is achievement then it is time only thing some doctors seem we engage in battle interested in is the almighty j when j kiuesled rjr brown to support his statement in re- dollar till recently most doctors ac- ference to an unsafe airfield until we muster the courage cep the fee guaranteed by he was unable to do so we are to call mr john q by his right omstp now some doctors arc still waiting to meet the gentle name and tell him that he is demanding an additional fee men who declare it unsafe let an irresponsible slob who ought j f me patient with no rcg- to be forced to clean lip his aixl for their fanancial status garbage we might as drive dear sir first of all my apologies for he delay in writing this letter 1 of thanks which i can only blame on the pressures of bus- liness rd like to now take the op- i portunity to tip my hat and j thank with a deep sense of ap- preciation the men of george town works department and the chief of police and his fine men for their wonderful help and trojan efforts in assisting my wife and i to clean up the mess in our home caused by the flood of july 28th in an age when most people an only think of running down the efforts of their public servants i think this town can feel justifiably proud of the records of the above depart ments i know i certainly am these men are a credit to their town and their departments if only our town council who i honestly feel have inherited a tremendous number of prob lems and headaches created by their predecessors have the intestinal fortitude to improve the existing drain and sewer facilities and ensure that exist ing and future developers are forced by tight supervision and if need be stricter bylaws not to take short cuts to save a few dollars at the expense of the purchasers of new homes i hon esty feel that former councils and their members still thought of this town as being in the 5000 population class when they passed some of their bylaws please mayor eirrmerson and company remember george town has grown from 4800 to 16000 residents in the past ik years i can only hope and pray that you remember this fact in your governing and the municipal planning fo our fut ure i have only lived here since september 1987 but my wife and i have loved every minute of our stay and we still feel that georgetown is the best place to live in the whole province of ontario yours very sincerely and with hopes for a brighter future j ian uclauohlan too much attention is given to very small ills because the government pays the bill an office full of perfectly healthy pregnant women waiting for a checkup while someone desper ately in need of a doctor has to wait where oh where is the doc tor who truly cares for his pat ient these days i recall a doctor of george town meeting a train and taking his patient by car to the home of a relative and staying with her till her child was born but that was 40 years ago in me point out that the develop ment of a safe landing field has been my foremost objective it was my own decision and my own expense that the hy dro lines were placed below the ground at the westerly ap proach giving a greater sense of security to a pilot in land ing or taking off also the field is properly marked with orange coloured markers to my knowledge there has not been any uncom plimentary remarks directed to this airport from pilots who have used it i as yet there has not been aui official opening of
