this way the late jack tost scriultz to many of his friends and i were hun ting an area called the point we had shot a few bunnies ah ead of ol barney and decid ed to call it a day however 01 barney had other ideas at this time he was heard going down river in hot pursuit of a bunny at this time jack and i heard a short train roar over the bridge it was going west we presumed it was the six oclock passenger flyer both of us decided to leave barney and go home as it was getting late one hour we knew from experience that another train wasnt due for at least 1 hour and hoped that our hunter would follow us and be safe over the bridge before one hour was up we always when crossing this bridge walked between the ed ge beam and the outside rail track spacer blocks made of wood were inserted between the ties there jack and i were in a jolly mood because ol barney had helped us have a good- days hunt our mood changed quickly when the shrill blast of a fast train whistle blasted the air as we looked behind us the fa miliar contour of tho flyer boomed up on the horizon as it was coming past norval usually waiting usually we would be waiting for it with ot bafney at flur side it never failed to send a shiver of exdtement up and down our spine especially when it roared passed us and onto the bridge we always apprcts lated the big wave of the hand the engineer save us much to our dismay 01 barn ey was seen coming down the far bank- and heading for thej bridge we both crouched down so the dog would not see us and hoping at the same time that he would sense danger and cross the river at the rap ids where we sometimes did the engineer waved to us and pointed back as the flyer roar ed by still alive our guns and game were left to be picked up later as we hur ried back expecting to find ol barney in pieces instead we found him wjth his nose wed ged between the ties along the edge where we always walked he was hit bad hut still alive a stretcher was made from our coats we then rushed him over to mr jack armstrongs resi dence and phoned for dr lear- mont who was the animal doc tor at that time dr learmont gave ol bar ney an injection gave us some pills for him and drove us home the next day 01 barney was up and walking around wave for barney the next weekend when the flyer passed we were waiting ttggtu3fiua3ggtiettctclc special wondering what to giva that
