WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 1996 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI 1S. Georgetown Ladies Powderpuff Le An eight-run outburst in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the high flying Navy Seals past the Green Beer-eh's (G.B.E.) 12-11 in week 14 action of the Georgetown Ladies Powderpuff League. The Seals were lead in their comeback victory by Jo-Anne Gravelle and Irene Van Ryn. Gravelle tripled, going three-for- four, to drive in three runs and score two more, while Van Ryn had three hits and scored twice herself. Also scoring runs for the win- ners were Jennifer Krafezek and Racheal Jackson with two each, Dianne Saunders, Lynne Gravelle, Carol Spiteri and Karin McDonald. Debbie Tatham led the G.B.E.'s, smacking a home run and a double, while Jeannie Brooks and Karen Tales delivered two-base hits. Stacy Hamilton and Jean Puck- ering had good nights on the mound, but couldn't hold back a tough and gritty Navy Seal squad. The news didn't get much better for the G.B.E.'s later in the week. They dropped their second game of the week, a21-12 decision to We'll Drink to That (W.D.T.T.). Aneight- tun first inning explosion keyed the W.D.T.T. victory. LauraLegere andLinda McClure paced the winner's attack, each slam- ming a home run and a double. Diane Richardson , with two, and Holly Peterson, with one, also dou- bled for W.D.T.T.. For G.B.E., Jeannie Davis tri- pled and drove in a-run , while Puckering doubled and cashed in two baserunners. Tatham and Brooks also doubled for the losers who saw their record drop to 5-10- 0 for the 1996 campaign. Despite, a mammoth home run from Teri Korzack - which woke up the dead or atleast the resting at the senior citizen rest home - The Grape Escape (T.G.E.) dropped a 20-18 decision to The Law (3-10-2). Denise Eden, Nancy Hoover, Sue Martin and Cris Russell doubled for T.G.E., who due to vacationing regu- lars were forced to go with a pair of green pitchers, Hoover and Jeannie LaRousso. Both ladies pitched admirabley in a losing effort. In spite of the loss, T.G.E. (12-3- 0) maintained their strangle hold on third-place, six points in front of fourth-place Mean & Ugly (8-5-2). Tony Robbins seminars must have paid dividends for the Spoil- ers, who used a 'positive-never-say- die' attitude to squeak past Out of The Blue (0.0.T.B.) 16-14. The turning point came in the sixth inning when the Spoilers came from out of the blue to rally for nine tuns. Withthe loss, the O.0.T.B.'ers (13-2-1) drooped out ofa first-place tie with the Moodie Blues (14-1-1) at top the G.L.P.L. standings. Gail Campbell paced the win- ners with a triple and two doubles, while Lucy McLelland chipped in with a triple of her own and Betty Flikkema added a double. Karen Appleyard made a fantas- tic catch in right field to help snuff out a O.0.T.B. rally and injured Anne Korzack provided some in- spirational scorekeeping. Acting coaches Morley and McClelland did a super job filling in and Goldie finally cashed in with a hit. Cindy See paced the O.0.T.B. assault slamming a pair of homers, including a grand slam, and knock- ing in five runs. Jo-Anne Emmerson added three rbi's , while Virginia Walker dou- bled and scored twice, and Susan Wilson scored three times. In an old fashioned slugfest, We'll Drink To That (W.D.T.T.) went home tired and thirsty, drop- ping a 25-21 game to Off Base. The winners, who saw their record improve to 8-6-1, good for fifth-place in the league, were led by the mighty bats of Penny 'Cookie' Butterworth and Melissa Muirhead, who had four rbi's each. Elaine Moreland, Sherry Wilson and Muirhead tripled for Off Base, while Tammy Lockwood, Melanie Hewson and Janet Hern chipped in with doubles. Lorie Sinnaeve's big base hit cashed in teammate Colleen Cadger to give the Moodie Blues (M.B.) a tight 3-2 win over All-Sorts in front of an appreciative crowd. Four M.B. hurlers combined to throttle the All-Sorts attack. Sandy Bridges led the strong armed M.B. brigade of Judy Faulhafer, Lynn LaFleurand Annette Van Dyke, with five strikeouts. On the offensive side of play, Diane Moore doubled for the win- ners who recorded their league-lead- ing 14th win of the season. All-Sorts were sparked by the strong defense of Sharon Orton and Tara Leavitt, and the pitching of Cathy Dawson and Donna DeHaas, who also had a double. The loss dropped All-Sorts' record a game below .500, to 7-8-0. Cindy Kavanagh was one 'Red Hot Chili Pepper" leading her club of the same name to a 20-8 romp over Javahjolli XXV (J.J.). Kavanagh cranked apairofhome runs, one amoonshot over the fence and the other an inside the parker, give you a hard sell, but our customers will. as the Cili Peppers behind the inspi- rational words of acting coach Troy Hilts saw their record improve to 5- 8-0 for the season. Aiding in the winning effort were Tammy Waters, who tripled, and doubles by Sharon Zmija, Julie Hilts and, once again, Kavanagh. Nancy Andrews and Paulette Friolet hit homers, and Andie Perriman had a double for J.J.'s (4- 11-1), who just couldn't put the deep freeze on the Hot Peppers. ae GEORGETOWN, Thurs., August 15. Junior Tyke Senior Tyke Novice, Atom, Mean & Ugly (M&U) were downright nasty and inhospitable, dominating F.M.P. 17-7, to main- tain their slim hold on fourth-place in league standings. Roseanne Harrison kickstarted the M&U (8-5-2) attack with aspec- tacular home run and triple. Susan Priest also cranked out a home run and added at double, with Helen Slingsby adding a two-base hit. Nancy Gruter caught F.M.P. nap- ping, stealing home plate, and Bev GEORGETOWN MINOR HOCKEY REGISTRATION FOR THE 1996/97 SEASON 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Legion (upstairs) 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Alcott Arena (upstairs) Sat., September 7. _ 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. To be announced - born 1990 & 1991 - born 1989 - born 1988 and earlier PeeWee, Bantam, Midget First time registrants MUST provide proof of date of birth before regis- tration will be processed (Please bring photocopy to registration if you cannot leave original).
