WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1996 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI aaeiee ore LETTERS Skatepark needed, parents say To The Editor: Hey Marilyn, remember me? We met while you were cam- paigning for Mayor of Halton Hills. I was picking up gar- bage on Mountainview Rd. in front of St. Andrew's United Church. You handed meapamphletand applauded my efforts to keep the town clean. Now I need your help! Or should I say our boys need your help! We need a safe, clean en- vironment for our boys to skateboard. It is imperative that we no longer procrastinate in find- ing them a suitable place to practise this sport. There is a place in Cam- bridge called Nowhere Skate Park. It is located in the Karl Homuth Arena. Helmets, elbow pads and knee pads are mandatory and are gladly worn by our boys. This skateboard park has been in operation for five years. Thursday there were ap- proximately 20 boys skate- boarding and rollerblading. Five of them were from Geor- getown, all 14 years of age. We need a place like this. Skateboarding is not go- ing to go away and hope- fully, neither will our young boys. They need our support at this awkward age. If you would like their opinions, you can find them at Holy Cross School on Maple Ave. They have been given permission to skate there, for now.
