WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 1996 'Horns make history By Paul Sargent Special to The Gemini Week #9 of the Georgetown Men's Flag Football League featured two shutouts and one nailbitter asthe top four teams continue to jockey for favour- able playoff spots. The first game of the day featured the Big Horns and the ever improving Hawgs. Led by a stellar offensive punch the 'Horns pitched a 15-0 shutout at the Hawgs. Leading the offensive foray for the Longhorns was Bob Davey who scampered in for one major and added a two point convert. The other Longhorn major was scored by Big Bird, Jeff Coulighan. Darrell Weir added a single as the 'Horns prevailed in what is believed to be the first shutout in their long and illustrious histroy. For the Hawgs it was a question of having to scram- ble just to field a team. Good performances by their de- fence prevented this game from getting out of hand. Another shut out was the story of the second game of the day as the Bandits hung the IRS squad out to dry to the tune of 37-0. Cesare Mauti led the Ban- dits attack with one major, a two-pointer and a single. Adding points for the defend- ing league champions were Kevin Gilbert, Rob Thompson, Dan McManus and Mike Saccucci who all hit pay dirt as quarterback Paul Tsaparis spread out the wealth. The Bandits' Thompson also picked off an errant IRS pass. League newcomers, IRS, did not have a lot to cheer about in this game, however, solid gasmes by Jeff Davis and David Andrews gave them something to build on for the future. The Hawgs returned to the field for the second half of their double dip and were nipped by the Hurricanes 20- 1: Rob Spiteri was aone man Kinsmen girls baseball results Cont. from page 18 pace an undermanned D.Q. squad who with the loss fell into athird-place tie with The Design Builder, both with identical 6-8 records. Junior League Delrex Smoke Shop moved into sole possesion of top-spot in the junior loop with a 30-6 thumping of Young's Pharmacy. Delrex's record now stands at a per- fect 8-0, two-points in front of idle Pizza Hut (7-2) with one-game in hand. Leading the way winners was a stingy defense which limit a potent Young's offense, which had previ- ously averaged beter than 20 runs a game, to only six runs. Offensively for Delrex, Elizabeth Black and Kelly Haines each homered. For Young's (3-6), Melissa Eady had two hits while Alicia Wilton, Mallory Harrison and Megan Rowney had excellent games with the glove. Larissa Farley and Amy Garbutt each homered and played solid defense to lead Standard Products (4-5) to a 19-11 win over M&M Sports. Hannah Jacobs and Sara Scuralli scored twice for a young and inexperienced M&M squad, who despite their 0-9 record, continue to improve. Nicole Bursey was named M&M's game star for her solid all-around play. Fax The Gem your sports scores!
