GARY BRAND, FRI, Associate Broker (905) 877-0173 (1-800-387-2230) 170 Guelph Street, Halton Hills (Georgetown) L7G 4A7 This is not intended to solicit properties listed for sale or valid while listed for sale. Gary Brand, FRI Associate Broker In announcing the exten- sion to the Affordability and Choice Today (ACT) pro- gram, the Honourable Diane Marleau, Minister responsi- ble for CMHC, said "This pro- gram encourages municipali- ties and the housing sector to work together to develop, demonstrate and promote in- novations in local planning and building regulations which can lead to improve- ments in housing affordability and housing choices." Marleau also thanked the Federation of Canadian Mu- nicipalities (FCM), the Cana- dian Home Builders' Asso- ciation (CHBA) and the Ca- nadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) for their ongoing support in partner- ing with CMHC to manage and promote the program. Now entering its seventh year of operation, the pro- gram has provided $990,000 in federal assistance to 94 projects spread across all re- gions of Canada. The decision to extend ACT was based on the find- extended ings andrecommendations of arecently completed program evaluation. It showed that ACT projects are having ben- efits ina wide variety of areas such as, streamlining project approvals, establishing alter- native development stand- ards, allowing new types of housing and enabling inno- vative infill and adaptation projects. The evaluation also con- firmed that ACT has fostered greater cooperation between municipalities and the hous- ing sector and has succeeded in transferring information on new approaches to housing problems to municipalities across Canada. Jerry Roehr, CHBA presi- dent, calledthe programa very significant contributor to Canada's housing objectives because it encourages com- munities and industry to work together. "Our joint initiatives, pro- moting reforms which benefit everyone, are a positive way toachieve tangible results for housing comsumers."
