WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1996 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI 15 Bandits stealing away BY PAUL SARGENT Special to The Gemini The defending league cham- pion Bandits served notice Sunday at Georgetown Dis- trict High School Field that they intend to fight tooth and nail in an effort to defend their hardware. The Bandits took the field twice and in both games came away with victories. The Bandits first encoun- ter of the day was against the Link Line Bighorns. The Bandits were anxious for a little revenge as the Bighorns had defeated them earlier in the season in what had to be termed a major upset. Led by the accurate pass- ing of pivot Paul Tsaparis, Aya the Bandits rolled past the 'Horns 26-1. Leading the way for the winners was de- fensive specialist Rob Thompson, who in addition to picking offan errant 'Horns pass also chipped in a touch- down and a two-point con- vert. Adding majors for the Bandits were speedy Kevin Gilbert, Dan Salvarinas and Paul Saccucci who broke open a pass and run for a nifty 80-yard td effort. Also pulling down an interception for the winners was Duff Moore. For the 'Horns, it was a matter of the offense not be- ing able to take advantage of Bandit' miscues. Twice the 'Horns were rewarded with favorable field position and twice they came up empty. The lone point on the board came off a Darrell Weir field goal attempt which sailed wide on the last play of the game. The 'Horns defense con- tinued to play extremely well as they limited the Bandits' high powered offense to less than 30-points. In the day's second match, the league leading M&M Sportsmen pounded out a methodical and effi- cient 32-19 win over the Hawgs. D.D.H. and Delrex: a perfect pair ELITE LEAGUE D.D.H. Distribution finished the season undefeated with at 14-0-0 record courtesy of a convincing 16-3 win over Norval Farm Supply. Lisa Lawrence and Janice Somers ledthe D.D.H. hitparade with asingle, double and two runs scored each. The Farmers' (9-5) were led by game star Lee Mc- Keown, who smacked a two- run homer and Lynn More- land who had a pair of hits. Halton Commercial Print- ers and Pictures and Presents battledtoa 11-11 tieinahard fought and exciting game. ay Despite being involved in anumber of close games this season P&P closed out the year with a disappointing 1- 11-2 record. SENIOR LEAGUE Remax (9-3) avenged an ear- lier loss and clinched first- place in the process with a 31-7 shellacking of Dunlop Insurance. The entire Remax club played their best game of the year, led by hitting star Becky Sargent, who went four-for-five with two triples and an amazing nine rbi's. 16-14. Amanda Nichol's fine pitching and big bat were the key for the winners. Nichol banged out a big double, as' did, teammate Jackie Bell who also pitched well, while Mandy Storey contributed with some solid play in the field. For Knechtel's Jaime MacDonald earned game star honors, knocking out three hits, including an home run, and scoring three times in a losing cause. Both teams finish with identical 7-5 records.
