The finals are set for Meadowglen on Oct. 5. The first division is set for 1 pm and the seconds at 3 pm. The playoffs have been marred by several teams play- ing ineligible players, mostly due to careless, rather than criminal acts. The deliberate ineligibles came from a team no longer in contention or membership. However, the situation is an item to be looked at more closely for next season. Highlander's hope for zero loss season BY MARK A. MANN Special to the Gemini The North Halton Highland- ers Rugby Team moved an- other game closer to an unde- feated season on Sunday as they handled the Toronto Scottish 15-5 in TRU third division play. With only tworegular sea- son games remaining the Highlanders have mathemati- cally sealed first place in the league and are set to move up to the second division next year. The team improved its record to 11-0-1 with wins over Markham, two weeks ago and the Scottish this past week end at Neilson's Field. The Highlanders mounted an early lead on the Scottish as Dave Lipp and Kyle Goodlet combined for a try following some hard hitting forward play. Trevor Harkley missed the convert from a very uncomfortable position, near the Scottish sideline, but added three more points for the Highlanders as a penalty attempt made it through the uprights. The Scottish narrowed the lead before the end of the half with a try that was scored on a sloppy Highlander defense and with some help from the referee as well, Despite efforts from the referee to give the Scottish a lead, the Highlanders de- fended well and finally put the game out of reach as Kirk Serjeantson scored on a bril- liant last minute penalty play thought up by Captain Bob Ford-King. The 15-5 victory marked the final home game for the Highlanders as they play Markham and the Scottish once more each on the road. This team, which refuses to play to its potential, will be without outside centre Mark Lamb and winger Rob Elmslie for the remainder of the season due to injuries, but are confident that they can finish the season unbeaten.
