Restrictions as mains scrubbed BY FRANCES NIBLOCK The Georgetown Gemini For just a minor inconven- ience, Georgetown residents and businesses can continue to enjoy pure, clean drinking water. Residents and businesses are asked not to use their water or flush their toilets on selected days during the com- ing weeks as Halton Region cleans out watermains throughout the Town. Crews began the street-by- street work last week and homeowners should watch their mail boxes for a blue flyer that will give them a couple of days notice of when their street is being done. As the mains are cleaned, a lot of discoloured flushing water is discharged. To keep it out of houses, people are asked to not use the water or flush their toilets from ap- proximately 9 am to 5 pm when it's their turn. Halton director of Envi- ronmental Services, Brent Marshall, said the $30,000 Georgetown project is part of an on-going program, al- though some of the mains being done this week have never been done. "You get a build up of silt and unharmful film on the inside of the water main, which could cause discol- oured water," Marshall ex- plained in an interview last SCRUB-A-DUB-DUB? Swabs are pushed through the watermains which are then flushed. Marshall said that for the firsttime in Georgetown they are taking a pro-active ap- proach to cleaning the mains and not waiting until there is a complaint. Plan of condominium approval delayed An emotional plea from a Georgetown homeowner with a long list of complaints about a neighbouring condo- minium development con- vinced Town Council to de- fer dealing with the develop- er's application for a plan of condominium for two weeks. The move means that reg- istration of the condominium will be delayed and that peo- plecurrently living there can't take ownership and must con- tinue paying rent until the issues are resolved. Gretchen Day, wife of Ward 3 Councillor John Day, who declared a conflict of interest and left the room during debate about the Daniels Group's condo- minium on River Road, told Council that they are account- able to her and that she wants her issues dealt with. Day complained that the Daniels Group, which built a 32-unit condominium townhouse developmentnext door to her, has not fulfilled its site plan obligations, in- cluding installing an agreed upon fence between their properties. Day also noted that the Daniels land is draining onto hers and asked for a guaran- tee that her weeping tile bed will not be affected and that the developer's retaining wall abutting her property will not be undermined and fall down. Day said that a promised pre- construction inspection ofher foundation was not done and that the condominium con- struction has caused her house to sink. She also com- plained that her property is totally landlocked, done with knowledge by Town staff. Town staff noted that the Daniels Group had indicated that it was willing to repair the fence and fix some light- ing problems but that the foundation and land locking were not the Town's issues, but were between the devel- oper and Day. Although several council- lors refused to support the deferral, indicating that they while they sympathized with Day's concerns, there was nothing the Town could do, the majority agreed to hold offon approving the applica- tion for condominium fortwo weeks in order to give Day and the developera chance to talk and try and resolve the issues. -- Niblock KIM@ID Commercial & Residential Cleaning Services Le { Aes \ ites BT a > Party with Charley & the Gang for ee 3 Nights of Cricks & Treats! 280 Guelph St., Georgetown 873-989] ¢ Reliable « Bonded « ¢ Free Estimates e Call today -- we'll take your dust away!
