(Jamie Harrison photo) Children's Chorus to sing in Italy The members of the Halton Hills Children's Chorus were thrilled when they learned that their audition tape to participate in the 1997 International Children's Choir Festival had been accepted. Earlier this year, they were invited by Jean Bartle, the director of the Toronto Children's Chorus to submit and application. ' These individuals claim that there is a sum of money, _ usually in the millions of dol- lars, that must be transferred to a "neutral" or "foreign" account. For the use of the account for a short period of time, huge sums of money are promised, also amount- ing to millions of dollars. These arrangements are al- legedly made in collabora- tion with Nigerian officials. Unfortunately, no funds are deposited. Instead, the accounts are either drained or the victim is asked to pay up front costs associated with moving the money. Current estimates are that North American companies are los- ing over $1 billion a year to Nigerian scam artists. NEWSSHORTS Assault at GDHS Halton Regional Police are searching for two sus- pects following an assault in front of Georgetown District High School. According to police reports, the assault took place at about 3:30 am, Nov. 9. A 17-year-old Georgetown man was walking in front of the school when he was assaulted by two persons following a verbal confrontation. Police allege that two men punched the youth repeatedly, resulting in bruising and a swollen éye. The first suspect is described as: white male, 5'10", 150 Ibs, with brown hair, approximately 16- 17-years-old. : The second suspect is described as white male, Intox charge laid A Georgetown man was detained by Halton Re- gional Police, Thursday, on charges of public in- toxication. : Police observed the man leaving an establish- ment at the corner of Mill and Main Streets, walk- ing onto the road several times, often against a red light. Police detained the man, fearing that his apparent inebriation might make him a danger to himself or to others.
