2 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31 1996 Councillor seeks PC nomination Halton Regional Councillor Ralph Scholtens has an- nounced that he is seeking to be nominated as the Progres- sive Conservative candidate for Halton in the next federal election. "T think I can effectively serve my community and country as Halton's MP," said Scholtens. "While I've been working with my municipal colleagues to maintain serv- ices while keeping taxes at the same level, the federal government has raised taxes more than 40 times since 1993. I think it's time to go to work in Ottawa and get some things done." Scholtens has developed a reputation with some as a straight-forward, hard-work- ing leader who is notafraid to ask tough questions or deal with difficult issues during his past three terms on Bur- lington and Halton Region Council. "T've always believed that it's part of leadership to be up front about what I believe in. Having the courage of your convictions has to be com- bined with a willingness to "and business involvement. "T'man entrepreneur who has been involved in building up three businesses all of which have been successful. Irealize that no single per- son is going to change the political culture by them- selves, but I want to go to with others to getthings done, but I don't believe in the poli- tics of platitudes where you say a lot of words that don't really mean anything." In addition to his eight years of municipal political experience, Scholtens has a long history of community Ottawa and sell the agenda of political change that every- one seems to be looking for," Scholtens said. Scholtens his wife of 25 years, Betty, and their four adult children have lived in Halton for more than 30 years. x GENDER BENDER: Three Wise Women, from left, Laura Vanderleest, Meghan Ananthan and Becky DeKleer, pose just before they took the stage in Georgetown District Christian School's The Case of the Missing Christmas. Det. Sgt. Don Cousens of the Intelligence Unit told The Gemini that the flyers do not contravene the law. "Tt was simply an opinion expressed by a mem- ber of the public ... almost like a political opinion," Det. Sgt. Cousens said. "We don't have a problem with that. "There were questions by members of the public (regarding the flyer). That's why we looked at it," Cousens said. Cousens' office looked at the flyer following a complaint by some Glen Williams residents through 11 Division in'Georgetown. Parking etiquette suspect A Georgetown man returned to the Georgetown GO Train Station Dec. 16 to find that someone had let the air out of two tires and left a note on the windshield of the GMC Yukon. The note proclaimed the driver to be a "parking hog," evidently left by someone unimpressed with the parking job. listen and the ability to work ZN (GUMBO VIDEO) Ses e The Biggest Name In Entertainment!
