WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1997 THE GEORGETOWN GEMINI Public sees design for sewer upgrades BY FRANCES NIBLOCK The Georgetown Gemini Approximately 50 Georget- own residents attended last Monday's publicinformation centre on the preliminary design fora $5 million project to provide additional waste water, Or sewer, capacity for Georgetown. Halton's Senior Special Studies and Research Engi- neer Benson Leung said that the written comments left by a number of people indicated that they were pleased with the "much improved" design for a waste water pumping station on Main Street. The entire project includes the pumping station, a trunk sanitary sewer at Black Creek, a connection to the Silver Creek Trunk Sanitary Sewer and a Main Street forcemain, which will extend to south of 15 Sideroad. "The project is design to accommodate additional growth in both west and south Georgetown," Leung ex- plained last Wednesday. The Black Creek trunk consists of two separate branches, one which will cross the North Halton Golf Course, and both will join into a larger sewer for dis- charge into the proposed Main street waste water pumping station. The Silver Creek trunk overflow sewer will connect the Black Creek and Silver Creek sanitary sewers and is designed to pre- vent sewer overflows to an environmentally sensitive area. The project will also pro- vide a long term solution for residents in the Halton Hills estates subdivision, whose tile beds are not functioning and could potentially con- taminate their water. Leung said the project will be paid for by development charges, existing water and sewer rates, a contribution from the New Home War- ranty Program, the Town, the Province and homeowners with existing problems. "The specific split has not yet been decided but the time table depends on the devel- opers' will to proceed," Leung said. He added that they will assess all of the public com- ments from the open house, finalize the design and then take it to Regional Council for consideration.
