Si Blue Fins score big at Oakville winter meet The cold winds of January clearly didn't chill the enthu- siasm of the Halton Hills Blue Fins competitive swim club. In January, 11 young boys and girls competed in the Oakville Winter Invitational, which by all accounts was a success for all participants. In the finals were Chris Henderson (boys 11 and 12 years) with his third place finish in the 50 metre free- style, and fourth in the 100 metre backstroke. Alex Main (boys 13 and 14 years) was also a big winner, placing third in 400 metre individual medley and fourth in both the 100 metre and 200 metre free- style races. In the same age group, Andrew Hodgson came in eighth place in the 100 metre breastroke, with Patrick Potosky scoring a sixth place spot in the 100 metre backstroke. In boys 15 years and over, Dan Hardstaff added another club record to his list of suc- cesses with his 200 metre freestyle swim, while Christine Lent, girls 15 years and over, recorded a fifth place finish in the 200 metre backstroke. In Industrial League ac- tion there were a couple of surprises. Chuckers defeated Dreamers in the first round and Nimrods defeated Gasketman in the third round. Chuckers were the only team to win all three, with Panthers and Independ- ents losing all three of their matches. Overall Dreamers have a 15-3 record, Gaskets are 14-4, Guzzlers are 13-5 with Chuckers 12-6. Jim Franks (Independ- ents) with 120 an Mike Vernon (Woodchockers) closed 130, on a final dart bull (50). See Dealer for Details 2 LINCOLN-MERCURY 972% Novice Raiders busy The Minor Novice Raiders fin- ished the week with two Tri- County playoff wins, but ran into a tough opponent in drop- ping a 2-1 decision to Orangeville in second round OMHA play-downs. The Raiders relied on a strong second period in de- feating the Brampton Maroons | in Tri-County play. After a scoreless first period, Peter Bailey and Chris Darling showed their speed and agility to pop back to back breakaway goals. Mike LaRose, Cory McLaughlin and Jeff Bayley counted assists. Raymond HALTON HILLS' NO. 1 CHOICE FOR FORD Te atte 4 + Frt, Lic & Taxes Martin netted the third of the period assisted by LaRose and Peter Bailey. Brampton fought back in the third to come withina goal of the Raid- ers before Brett Reynolds notched the game winner, with Jeff Bayley as the set up man. LaRose put the game out of reach, with a blistering wrist shot from the right side. Martin drew the assist on the insurance marker. The Raiders beat Burling- ton with a strong defense and superb goaltending in last weeks on Tri-County action. The Raiders won 6-2, Martin adding two goals and an as- sist. Bayley also scored twice, with Darling and Bailey add- ing singles. LaRose added three assists and was a_ persistent forechecker. Also drwing assists were Cory McLaughlin (2), Brett Reynolds (2), Michael Clost and Bailey. The Raiders lost their first game of their best of five series against Orangeville in a tight 2-1 tilt.The Raiders' Darling scored first, assisted by Bayley and LaRose.
