Novice Rams are in tough with Elora The Acton Tim Horton novice Rams are deadlocked in an exciting minor lacrosse playoff championship final with Elora Mohawks at two games apiece. Game One in Elora was a rusty display of how not to play lacrosse, according to Acton coaches. Coming off holidays the Rams relied on the fine work of Game Two was a complete reversal. Josh and Nathan Bowen were able to find the mark between the posts for the seven MacMillan's goals, while strong support was offered by Joel Landsborough. Adam Brouillard booted two goals for Merit, while Taylor Seads and Adrian Van Egmond presented a challenge for MacMillan's but it wasn't enough to reduce the five-goal spread. Rockwood's Guelph OPP downed Blue Springs Flowers by a final score of 3-2 in other Squirt soccer action on Wednesday. Blue Spring s> Michael Van Den Hoeil, Meighan Mclntyre, Becky Taylor and John Clayton proved their skills against OPP but it was not enough to come up with the win. Monica Gordon, Ben Williams, Shane Drexler and David Preston all had strong games for OPP in defensive battle. In other Squirt soccer action, Acton Home Hardware went down at the hands of Grand Valley H&R Block by a 4-1 margin. All four goals for H&R Block were from Ryan Pope. The opposing team's coach cited Home Hardware on their amount of improvement through the season. Acton's Galvcast-MacKenzie & Chapman Peewee Rams lacrosse squad made it to the Ontario Championships "C" division final before bowing out to Sarnia in the Provincial playdowns in Arthur last weekend. The Rams dropped their first match of the tourney to Sarnia by an 8-7 score, bowing out in sudden death overtime. Acton's Richard Raju netted four goals in the tough loss, while Shawn Weatherall bagged a pair of markers. Paul Withers put a single past the Sarnia netminder. Ryan Young and Jason Christopher both contributed a pair of assists in the game for Acton, while single helpers came from the sticks of Sandy Chapman and Jeff Newman. In their second contest of the weekend, Raju pocketed a hat-trick for Acton, while Christopher and Withers picked up singles. Kyle Artem had a pair of assists in the game, while Ryan Young, Chapman, Christopher, Raju and Scotty Monaghan all had lone helpers. The local Peewees trounced Midland 10-3 in their third encounter. Raju and Weatherall both picked up hat-tricks in this win, with single goals coming from Chapman, Christopher, Artem and Monaghan. Chris Lee came up with three assists in the game, while others went to Artem (with two), Christopher, Newman, Monaghan and Andrew Coe. Acton encountered a strong Sarnia side in their final contest and ended up on the losing side of an 8-3 decision. Newman, Raju and Withers rifled in the local side's goals in this game. Jason McGuire had one goal and Brandon Valente picked up two assists. Final game for the series is scheduled for Elora on Thursday.
